5 hour energy drink and caffeine and migraines? I get Alice in Wonderland migraines. If i take in too much caffeine, i will trigger a migraine.
I'm wondering how much caffeine is in this energy drink and if it could really effect me in a bad way.
Advice please?
=()livia replied: "dont drink any.
i get migraines also.
just go to sleep"
fishtank905 replied: "Cofee is generally better for you, but try not to drink too much. If its just too unbearable, 5 hour energy is your best bet"
lee lee replied: "I am a person who gets majorly affected by caffeine drinks. But i have found that 5 hour energy really works for me. As long as you eat something before you take it, you will not get any nausea. I have also found I don't get the jitters or increased heart rate that other drinks give me. Hope i helped!"
christopher m replied: "drop the energy drinks they contain way to much caffeine and to much sugar"
bestquestions replied: "You should track when you drink energy drinks and if you get headaches. Keep a journal or something. If you notice a link between the two, stop drinking them!
Learning your migraine triggers and avoiding them is as good as any medication."
Rick replied: "well too much of this drink can spoil your body... its the first thing and...however i don't know about the no. of calories.... but i am sure it does have a lot of them ....

Can caffeine trigger migraines? In an attempt to get rid of what I believed to be migraines (without going to a doctor, self diagnosed) I quit eating chocolate a year ago. It reduced my migranes dramatically. I still get some nasty migraines, like today. Can caffeine be a trigger for migraines?
Lyn replied: "Absolutely."
carol p replied: "Yes, Chocolate has caffeine in it and all caffeine is bad for you and cause your migraines without a doubt. Good luck."
Answer Fairy replied: "Yes... But if you self-diagnosed for migraines, then they are probably just really nasty headaches and not migraines. A migraine makes you feel like you are dying. Nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light... A true migraine will make you stay in your house and feel like death... most people will seek out medical treatment.
Anyway, LACK of caffeine will often cause a bad headache. But, you also need to pay attention to your diet. If you have a nasty headache, try eating some protein. I get migraine-like headaches when I don't eat every 3 hours...."
lisa d replied: "Yes, for sure. Avoid peanuts, chocolate, red wine, sulfites, cheese and caffeine. Good luck."
ladeebunny replied: "yes"
helo pilot cfi heavy lift replied: "yes absolutely"
TJ2006 replied: "Yes- chewing gum too often - certain perfumes can trigger a migrane also- and like you said chocolate!"
KDHaroundtown replied: "Most definitely. I have a caffeine headache right now. I do also have migraines. I personally am trying to back off of so much coffee - it is as much of a habit as it is chemically addicting. Anything that alters the chemical structure of the synapsis in your brain has the potential to trigger migraines. If you want to know a truly interesting natural substance to combat migraines (and I know this sounds totally absurd), mix 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in 8 oz. of water and drink it if you feel ANY first symptoms of a migraine. I have used this since I found out about it and have been migraine free for almost a year after 23 years of suffering from monthly migraine attacks. Drink it daily. Don't believe me? Just try it. If you are like how I WAS....you'd try anything to get rid of that horrible pain. And I had taken prescriptions and all that over the years. The APPLE CIDER Vinegar was the real deal. I hope it works for you. (I'm not a doctor and this is not medical advice!) Be sure to brush your teeth after drinking vinegar and drink it after you eat something. It is easier on the stomach after eating and vinegar can have a negative effect on the enamel of your teeth if you don't brush."
Amelia M replied: "This is a valid question. I have suffered from migraines for over 15 years. One of my food triggers is coffee! I can drink caffeine without any problems. I drink redbulls on a pretty regular basis, but something in coffee triggers me into mindblowing migraines within 20 minutes. If you have found chocolate triggers your migraines it is important that you stay away from it. I know how it feels to give up something you like but not having the migraines far outweighs the benefit of not having migraines for sure! BTW the only thing that I have found that stops my migraines is excedrin migraine possibly because it has caffeine in it, but each person is different."
bshelby2121 replied: "yes i believe so, i have read many different places that you can overdose on caffeine one of the symptoms being headaches....I have severe migraines as well....and also go through about 10 to 12 12oz cans of soda a day, I am pretty confident that it has a great deal to do with my headaches."
dbgyog replied: "Yes, but not to all. It will depend upon constitution.
Pl try cold water bath and observe.
If you have cough/cold body hot water bath will help.
Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
If it fails you will have to go for Acupuncture.
There is hardly any medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes.
None of them can be treated with medicine.
Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point (with round tipped pen/jimmy) 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.
For forehead/eye pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.
It may disappear naturally too.

Is caffeine good for relieving migraines? I heard somewhere that drinking caffinated drinks such as soda wil relieve a bad headache or a migraine. is this true? thankyou!
a.mcmillan2008 replied: "if you drink caffeine, and stop you will get a migraine.then if you drink one it will go away.if you have a bad head ache.you could juct have to go to bathroom.it could be a sinus head ache those have been going around.try zertec see if it helps."
corvyvw replied: "That depends on what caused your migraine. If you drink it all the time and then stop, you get migraines caused by withdrawals. If you don't drink it much then drink a lot it can cause migraines.
The best way to take care of migraines is to keep track of what you eat and how you feel, note when you have migraines, and figure out what your trigger is. Then avoid it. For some people it is foods, for some its weather changes, for some its mood related. My doctor recommends using naprosyn, used in midol for teens PMS symptoms. It can prevent a migraine from becoming full blown if you catch it fast enough. Follow the directions on the box. If that doesn't work, see your doctor and work up a plan of prevention and treatment."
LadyLynn replied: "Yes, caffeine is good for headaches in general. There is caffeine in
Excedrin, Anacin, and many other headache medications.
There are some excellent meds for migraines, but you need a prescription for them. Don't waste your money on Excedrin Migraine. It's exactly like Excedrin! (Rip off!) :)"
How can I wing myself off of caffeine drinks without terrible headaches? I want to stop drinking sodas and tea but anytime a go a day without caffeine, I get migraines. To the point of crying sometimes.
What would be a good way to wing myself off of it?
Yomi ^_^ replied: "just sip it and dont ever overdo it! dont rush it down all at once, try 1 can a day and gradually bring it down to 6 a week, then 5,4,3 and so on! you dont need to cut it out completely x hope this helps"
Jen replied: "slowly reduce your caffeine intake."
Banzokami replied: "increase your magnesium intake, not too much though, or you'll have diarrhea problems. it will alleviate muscle tension. calcium have help alleviate some of the pain associated with headaches. eating your dark leafy greens, kale, collards, swiss chard will help remove toxins that cause headaches. acai berry/mangosteen is a powerful combination. also playing ambient cricket audio will help alleviate headaches."
Shawty replied: "slowly!
say you have 6 caffine drinks a day now, eliminate 2 a week untill you're down to 1 or none =)"
i have been prescribed butalbital caffeine tabs for my migraines. I am very concerned about this medicine :( ? i have been taking this medication for my migraines and i just read about them and they are really like pain pills but worse is that right? i dont like pain pills and i don't like being down. i am a single mother of 2 babies and i cant be down all day.how does the caffeine play a roll in this medication? so is it a downer with an upper? i dont understand this medication? so does it get you sleepy but up at the same time? i am just concerned because if it is not suit for me then i do not think i will be taking this any longer. i dont like painpills much less downers.
cmil replied: "Smoke weed."
Peter H replied: "I would agree with you in being concerned. The tablets do contain a painkiller (acetaminophen), but the full dose of acetaminophen is 1000mg up to 4 times a day (4000 mg a day), whereas the content of the maximum recommended dose of butalbital-acetaminophen-caffeine is a little under 2000 mg, so potentially not enough painkiller.
Now for the rest of it. You are right: butalbital is a downer and caffeine is an upper. I would never have prescribed that mixture, especially as butalbital does not even rate a mention as a treatment for migraine. This reasonably authoritative website
suggests this combination tablet is intended for tension headaches rather than migraines, but it also says "Evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of this combination product in the treatment of multiple recurrent headaches is unavailable."
My suggestion is that you have a serious talk with your doctor, and, if necessary, insist on a second opinion."
Az R replied: "Uh. Yeah. Fioricet, or barbituate/caffeine tablets are nowhere -NEAR- the top of the list for migraine treatment. There's basically no evidence that they're effective at all, and current guidelines indicate that they should only be used after you're failing to respond to at least three different triptans, ergot, Tricyclic antidepressants as prophylactic, and antiepileptic prophylaxis.
Have a long, long talk with your doctor, because you shouldn't get to this medication unless you've gone through the two dozen more effective means of managing migraines first."
Does Green Tea have a lot of caffeine? I just bought a carton of the Lipton Green Tea with Citrus. I am wondering compaired to regular tea, does green tea have much caffeine. I have bad migraines and regular tea usually keeps my migraines to a minimum.
chickadee_ajm replied: "No it has less than regular tea. I don't have the box with me, but on my green tea box it shows the caffeine of reg tea with green tea and green is much lower."
Ellis replied: "An average 6-oz. cup of green tea contains about 30 mg of caffeine. For comparison, coffee has about 100 mg per cup. And I believe tea has more than coffee. Next itme you should look for decaffeinated green tea, it exists I have some!!"
scruffyM replied: "greentea has less caffiene than ordinary tea. You would have to drink two or three cups to each one of gren tea"
chris w replied: "Experiments have shown that tea after a first 5 minute brew contains 32 mg caffeine.
This is a very interesting article.
"
Sean F replied: "Green tea has very little caffeine compared with normal tea and nowhere near as much as coffee but I wouldn't drink that Lipton rubbish I would buy Clipper, Twinings or Jacksons of Piccadilly. Jacksons is the best lemon infused green tea I have ever tasted, their orange infusion is also good. Try Clearspring Japanese Mu or Hojicha tea and Clipper Jasmine tea as well."
BREW replied: "there is nothing wrong with a little natural caffiene as long as you have a good source (i.e. Red Bull vs. Chocolate). Dont fret about the levels of caffiene unless you have a health condition that you must regulate. If you eat/drink everything in moderation you'll never have to worry about your caffiene intake. Its a great way to spruce up @ work, open up your mind to think more clearly and also a little pick me up to chase after your kids."
bouncer bobtail replied: "Green tea is basically young tea. It has about half the caffeine.
Red tea - Roobiosh is a different plant altogether and has no caffeine"
Eric B replied: "Green tea does not contain as much caffeine. This is not simply because its a younger leaf as stated above. It has more to do with the fermentation process. Green tea goes through a much shorter oxidation process.
Your "regular" tea, is really black tea and has been allowed to completely oxidize.
White tea is from young tea leafs to correct the person who said that of green tea earlier. This is also not oxidized after the leaves are picked.
Diet Green Tea with Citrus
11mg per 8oz
Diet Iced Tea with Lemon
20mg per 8oz
Green Tea with Citrus

Iced Tea with Lemon

lookin4hope replied: "You can buy the decafe version of the same brand next time if you are worried about the caffeine.
But neverthe less I believe green has less!"
kathy w replied: "It does have caffeine, but less than regular tea and less than half the caffeine content of coffee. Why not try Decaf, I'm sure that you could by that."
I have quit all caffeine and meds that I take for migraine preventatives. How long will I go thru withdrawls? I just quit cold turkey with the caffeine. I have weened myself off the migraine preventative and haven't taken it at all for 3 days now. I just yesterday gave up all caffeine and all day I had a terrible headache. I woke up with the headache today, but it has eased up a bit. How long will it take for my body to adjust to being caffeine and pill free? I think caffeine was the thing triggering my migraines...which is why I have decided to quit drinking anything caffeinated and get off my meds.
hempdro42 replied: "My grandmother is addicted to caffiene, and it takes her about 10 days to go thru the withdrawals. But you know it's always different depending on the person. Just load up on vitamins, and don't hesitate to lay in bed all day! You need time to recuperate!"
Has anyone had to cut out caffeine and sugar from their diet? I suffer from chronic migraines and found caffeine to be one of my triggers, other people has also suggested cutting out sugar to be effective has anyone had to do this?
Did you find it effective? What are some way you got around it? ie recipes etc?
thanks =)
BlueSea replied: "Haven't had to for medical reasons but it is common knowledge about caffeine and its affects on migraines.
I have tried and continue to strive to cut sugar out of my diet, I can sure feel the affects of cutting it out, for the better all the way around."
sandria z replied: "try decaff or tea instead"
kittykat replied: "well i used to have alot of caffine in one day and then when i didnt have any i would get REALLY BAD migraines!!!"
scottie replied: "Yeah I avoid caffeine, it makes my heart beat too fast and stops me sleeping properly. :-)
Natural sugars are in most foods you eat :-)"
Christine replied: "I haven't been able to cut out caffeine completely, but I have reduced it. I try to drink 1/2 a cup instead of more. I also drink herbal tea, when I can. It's hard. I miss my diet coke at lunch!
I'm suppose to cut out salt, but I just can't do it!
Good luck! I use to get migraines, they were horrible! Talk about losing a day or two out of your life and be COMPLETELY useless!!"
jamie kat replied: "I am cutting them out starting tommorow not for anything other than I want to feel good and be more healthy. I've been watching a show on the American BBC called "You are what you eat" and it has inspired me. I actually think about what I put in my mouth now and I want my diet to have more colors than a rainbow. Are you allowed to have natural sugars from fruit? If so, try making fruit smoothies or having a dish of berries with sugar free whipped cream on top. I find having an apple helps keep me feeling good for the day and not have any sugar cravings. Good luck!"
Tiff replied: "yes i also have the same condition and I try to eat a lot of salads especially fruit salads. Also if I am really craving chocolate I by the sugar free kind because it tastes just as good as the regular kind."
Leen V replied: "Tea has caffeine and caffeine is the cause of having high blood pressure thus may be the cause of having migranes.use honey instead of sugar. My doctor adviced me to drink decaffinated drinks especially lay of the sodas and coffee."
elz replied: "yeah i had to.
caffeine triggers cystitis in me, according o the doctor, i react badly, and my blood becomes acidic affrecting my urinary tract, eventually filtering to my bladder, where i feel i'm peeing acid. i quit caffeine, and i'm a million times better.
i cut sugar from my diet. the doctor said i was sensitive to it. now my eczema is about 90% gone."
kelley replied: "no. sugar, caffeine, twinkies, and saturated fat are the four basic food groups, aren't they?
seriously, caffeine affects people differently. too much, or reducing intake can both trigger migraines. the key is to keep your intake low and stable. even one glass of pop disturbes that balance.
as far as sugar goes, there are many different kinds of sugar. sucrose (table sugar) fructose (fruit sugar), maltose (sugar from grain), dextrose, corn syrup, honey, molasses. there is even a problem with the kind of sugar we buy in bags at the store. some comes from sugar cane juice, which is a grass the same as wheat, there fore, if allergic to wheat, might well be allergic to cane sugar.
another kind comes from sugar beet juice-different source, different possible allergies.
sugar might well be a trigger, but which one? find out what kinds you are using, and try eliminating them one by one till you find the culprit."
Butterfly replied: "Take out sodas, coffees, tea from your diet."
