Chances Of Multiples Using Clomid Resource in Questions
Do you have a higher chance of getting multiple births using a higher dose of clomid? I w ant to correct someones comment about using clomid. Does clomid help you release more eggs or it helps you release an egg. And is it true that the higher dose you use the more chance of getting multiple eggs released?

myfirstbaby replied: "No. I asked an expert about it and he said that this is no true."

moonzappie77 replied: "Higher doses of clomid dosn't not increase your chances of multiples."

pretty replied: "IM A DOCTOR!!!.. ITS NOT TRUE!!.. ITS NOT THE CLOMID!!.. ITS THE GINSENG!!!!!!!..."

HeatherC-P replied: "I have been told that it doesn't increase the chance of multiple births. Good luck."

Does using Clomid AND Metformin increase or decrease the chance of multiples? My doc just started me on Clomid and said I didn't have to take the Met anymore because it wasn't helping me to ovulate but I'm unsure if I want to stop or not.

C F replied: "i would stop takeing it its not doing anything for you. it could interfer with the other med he gave you, so i would only take the one he said to"

Poppy: due 12/19/08 with baby #1 replied: "Doesn't change it at all. Metformin is a diabetes drug which will help control your insulin. Therefore, when you control your insulin you may ovulate easier. Clomid will increase your chance of multiples. However, it's only about 5% of Clomid users have multiples and the vast majority of those are twins. *um, okay? Thumbs down - that's all correct info :("

Jill P replied: "Go with your doctor's recommendation. There are reasons why they prescribe certain medications and tell you stop others. There may be side effects from taking both, or there may be negatives to the Metformin that you want to avoid if it isn't providing a benefit. Never take medications without a doctor's order or ignore a doctor's order to stop taking medications -- it can be dangerous to your health."

rurouni replied: "Clomid slightly increases the chance, but it's negligible. I have a Clomid pregnancy and there's only one baby. :) Metformin has nothing to do with multiples at all."

Im using my 1st round of Clomid & HCG then I will have an IUI in a few days. What are the chances of multiples? i had a miscarriage in March and it is now May. My dr has decided to put me on Clomid and HCG because I dont ovulate regularly like I should. It is Friday and I go in Wednesday to have an ultrasound and then my HCG injection. then some point after that my husband and I will be having an IUI. With all of these measures of trying to get pregnant and then stay pregnant, what are my chances of having a multiples pregnancy? I know that it would be high risk, though the thought of twins or more would be exciting. Also are the chances of getting pregnant with these measures (clomid, HCG, and IUI) high? I do have an 8 year-old son but I have not been able to get pregnant and stay pregnant since then. Any in put and insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

m'smama replied: "Your chances of multiples with Clomid are low - only about 10%. More than twins is very, very rare on Clomid. As far as your chances of getting pregnancy go, this is how my doctor explained it to me: The chances of a couple who doesn't have any infertility issues conceiving in any given month are about 20%. With infertility issues, of course that number is lower - with Clomid and IUI, your chances are between 12-15% (but that was for me - our official "diagnosis" was unexplained infertility, and I've learned since then that Clomid is more successful for women who aren't ovulating on their own - and I was). Best of luck to you!!"

Tina replied: "When you have your ultrasound, ask them how many MATURE follicles that you have (there may be multiple small ones - the info that you need is how many will be mature when you trigger and do your IUI) . . . when I was on clomid, I only had one follicle therefore it was unlikely that I would have twins - the only way would be if nature split my little one into identical twins . . . if you react strongly to the clomid and show 2 or more follicles nearing the mature stage then your chances are higher. The more follicles you have . . .the higher chances for success. If there is more than one egg waiting, then your DH swimmers have more than one target. In general, Clomid only has a 10% increase for twins. Good luck and loads of baby dust!"

Julie P replied: "Your chances are much better because you will likely have more mature follicles and the IUI will get 100 fold more sperm directly into your uterus than intercourse (that info came from paperwork my doc gave me). I wish you the best of luck. We've made the decision to do the same :)"

A few questions about clomid, glucophage, and provera? Being diagnosed with PCOS, I Haven't been able to conceive. I found a doctor that put me on glucophage, provera, and Clomid. Has anyone else been on these medications successfully? If so soon did you conceive? I am also wondering how soon after i take my clomid and we have intercourse should i take a preg test before i start the cycle again? Does anyone know the chance of multiples from using clomid to concieve? and how much greater is it when there are multiples in both my husband and my side of the family?

PK211 replied: "I do not have PCOS but I did use Clomid to get pregnant. I used 1 cycle and had an HCG shot (forces eggs produced by Clomid to release helping to time intercourse), then had sex and ended up getting pregnant. I took the Clomid, went back to doctor where they did an u/s to see how many eggs (there were 4), they gave me the shot, I was told to wait 1 day before intercourse, had sex over the following 2 days, and I went back for a blood test about 5 days before my missed period -- and it showed up positive. The initial u/s showed 2 sacs but only 1 was viable and I am now 29 weeks pregnant with a little girl. Chances of multiples from Clomid are about double. Usually multiples in families dont' make much difference. Good luck."

Has anyone had multiples after taking Clomid? My husband and I have been trying to concieve for a long time and have been through alot of testing without any answers. Although my doctor is unsure if the problem is related to myself or my husband he has suggested that I begin a course of Clomid. He has assured me that the chance of having multiples on this drug is low, but I am still concerned that if the problem is my husband and not me that I will release alot of eggs and have multiples. Has anyone had multiples after using this drug??????

iamdzire replied: "You won't release more than one egg unless it's what your body would have done without Clomid. If you were injecting hormones it would be different. I took Clomid for 6 months and only one egg was released for each cycle. Your doctor should be able to do an ultrasound. They can see how many follicles are maturing and at what rate, from that they can tell how many will be released. Your body usually releases when a follicle gets to 19- 21; at which point any other follicles are naturally dissolved by the body. This is no different than what happens in your body every month."

Finally PREGNANT!!! replied: "The chance of twins is raised to about 10% and triplets are less than 1%. Anything more is really not heard of. Before starting Clomid I would insist that your husband be tested if he has not. Clomid can do a number on your body and you don't want to put yourself through that if he is the one with the problem. I got pregnant on Clomid and concieved twins. I miscarried one at 8 weeks. From the research I have done they say that happens in as many as 50% of Clomid pregnancies, but it often goes unnoticed. We still have one healthly baby and I am well into my second trimester. We balanced the mulitple issue with realizing that we would rather have three than none. Good luck!"

Pregnancy with pcos and clomid...? Anyone have PCOS and got pregnant on clomid? Do those of you who did use clomid have multiples? What are the chances of multiples from clomid? Any problems in pregnancy from pcos? A good prenatal vitamin with low side effects? Have I asked enough in one questions yet? LoL

chiquita11 replied: "the chances of twins on clomid is 5% so it's not too high, many women have gotten pregnant on Clomid with PCOS< you can find a few ladies who have gotten pregnant and some who are taking Clomid now, and also ask doctors online for free for advice, try fertilityties.com good luck!!!!!!!!!!"

Daisy replied: "My cousin has had 5 kids all singletons with clomid. Don't know about multiples."

charu replied: "i have pcos and i got pregant but unfortunately i lost it and later when i consulted with doctor they asked me to take 400mcg of prenatal folic acid and currently i am in first round of clomid i hope it works"

Any success using Clomid? I was wondering what the chances on conceiving after one 50mg dose of clomid? Does it really have a higher risk for multiple births?

bec replied: "My sister-in-law fell pregnant after a miss-carriage and two years of trying on her first dose of clomid! They are now trying again for their second!"

Rebecca replied: "I use to be on Clomid but no it did not work at all for me. It may be different for you though i don't know you can try it."

mommy replied: "I gpt pregnant on Clomid...yes it does increase the risk of multiple births. Its not just one dose, its 5 days straight of 50mg. You start on the day 5 and take them until day 9 of your cycle"

had 2 babies with help replied: "I used clomid for both of my successful pregnancy's. I used the 50 mg but it was not strong enough for me so I had to use 100mg. My doctor told me that most of the time you will get pregnant with the 3rd month it was used. And just like clock work I got pregnant 4 times on the 3rd month of trying. I had 2 miscarriages and then 2 successful pregnancy's. But I had a friend who used 50 mg clomid, and got pregnant the 1st month. Everyone is different. My doctor also mixed up the dosing the last time. He had me use it days 3-7 instead of days 5-9. He said sometimes this is enough to wake up your body. Clomid or any fertility treatment has a chance of multiple births, but your doctor can tell you about the risk of multiple births. That varies too. Good luck. I hope you get what you want."

Jade replied: "A trying to conceive forum that I go to has a support group for women using clomid. I know of a few members of that forum that have conceived easily after just one month on clomid. I'm sure they'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. I think you'll really benefit from joining this forum :)"

Babette S replied: "I have taken Clomid 50MG with both of my children. I have an 11 year old boy and an 8 year old girl. I lost a set of twins at 6 weeks and a baby girl at 5 months on clomid. I also had a baby after my two live children and I no longer needed the clomdi, my body was ready on its own. Good luck and don't be afraid. If you do have multiple children then it is God's gift to you!"

Mustang Gal replied: "My son was concieved with the aid of Clomid. For us it took a very high dose... 200mg. It does increase the odds of twins, but higher order multiples are almost always from injectable fertility drugs and / or IVF."

Anyone use clomid and ovidrel and conceive? I went ot Dr. on 29th of July after taking clomid and was told I had 4 mature follices ranging in size from 17mm-21mm. Came home next morning used ovidrel. Tried to concieve 24 hours later. I just want to know if anyone knows my chances of it working and when can I test. Also does anyone know the possibilities of multiples? It is so difficult waiting. TTC for 1 year. Thanks for your answers. yeah my mistake i did go to the dr on the 29th of june, thanks for catching that

karateJenn replied: "i agree, the wait is hard! i am assuming you went to the dr on the 29th of june (not july) in which case you should probably test in about two weeks. if you have 4 mature follicles and they are all released i would think it is likely to concieve multiples, they say clomid users have a 12% chance of having multiples and i think 4 follicles are a good number to start with. babydust to you!!!!"

Several Questions About Clomid, can EVERYONE please answer this to the best of their ability? Thanks a bundle!? I have been trying to conceive with my fiance of two years for almost 18 months now! I have unknown infertility problems. I just finished up my first time use of Clomid! I have not had any side effects from it and I am now ovulating. Today is cd 14 and I am ovulating...this is normal for me. I get my period every 28 days and most time ovulate on day 13 or 14, usually 14. Is there anything that you can recommend for me to do while ovulating? The doctor is thinking of increasing my dose of Clomid from 100mgs to 150mgs if this cycle is not sucessful...does the higher the dose produce more eggs? Also I read somewhere that the higher the dose of Clomid you are on the higher your chances are for twins or multiples. I was told that since I do not have a family or personal history of twins that my chance is around 10%...but will that 10% increase if my dosage of Clomid increases. I don't care if I have triplets (as long as all the babies and myself stay healthy), I just want to prepare myself for that chance. Also, I have two other children to previous partners, ages three years old and seven years old. My partner has two kids to previous partners and they are ages 12 and 8, we just can NOT seem to even get pregnant to one another. I heard that prior births could cause twins to occur whie using Clomid. Is that true? Sorry for the million questions, today is Sunday, so my doctor is NOT open or I would call. My doctor is NOT monitoring me except for me to come in on cd 22 for and altrosound to see if I am pregnant. Thanks for ANY answers you can give me. Kara

stacie replied: "My doctor told me that the chance of twins with Clomid is about 10%, no matter the dose. It does increase if you start adding in other treatments (trigger shots, IUI, etc). The chance of triplets is very low, and anything higher almost never happens on Clomid. I don't think I have ever heard that prior births could increase that risk, but if they did it would only apply to prior births for YOU, not your husband. The only advice I have is to make sure you are using a sperm friendly lube if you are using one (Pre-Seed is the best I have heard). Also, have they checked your husbands sperm analysis? If you ovulating and not getting PG on Clomid, they need to check that even if he has older children. An infection, injury, or even overheating and reduce his count to infertile numbers."

This is my first cycle of Clomid.? First time taking clomid. I am 36 and took clomid to help with fertility. (I've never had a problem getting pregnant before, but am getting older now) I just found out that I succeeded on the first try. I am wondering what my chances are of multiples giving the fact that I am a bit over weight, I am over 36 and I used clomid. I've been reading and reading and never get a clear answer about clomid. I just really want to know if other women who mostly ovulate regularly who have taken clomid have been blessed with twins. That I know of I don't have twins in my family and neither does my husband. Really curious! I think it would be great to have twins.

mermaid replied: "If you are taking clomid, that is the only factor to consider. Makes no difference if twins run in the family, or if you are in any other high risk category for having twins. Clomid causes increased ovulation. You may or may not have had more than one egg. Being on clomid is the determining factor as to whether you may have multiples. If you look at the statistics, they are increased but not that high."

mommy_2_liam replied: "On 50mg of clomid, the chance of a multiple are very slim"
