I've had a side affect using clindamycin; but I've also have serious peeling of my skin and darkening. Is this I used clindamycin for my tooth;but i got the side affects. I stated to the doctor of my allergies and they gave it to me still. I'mm all messed up. I can't use my hands because it's peeling and also other parts of my body. What should I do? It's been 3 wks.
joan replied: "Call the doctor again and explain your symptoms, that does not seem right. Maybe there is something else they can give you. Three weeks is a long time to have symptoms."
I am using 10% benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin 1% gel, so I asked and my skin is supposed to peel...? what does it look like? and I'm 14 so I'm in school all the time, and my skin is supposed to peel, what is the process?
yeaaboii replied: "the doctor told u its sposed to peel? im not exactly sure what u are asking..but 10% benzyl peroxide is meant to dry out your skin..it might get itchy and red and it will pretty much just look like dry skin... (im not sure about the clindamycin though...it might change how it will look.."
Lucretia replied: "It does really dry the skin out so i suggest putting the benzoyl on at night time, moisturise every morning, exfoliate once a week and drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin. Good luck xx"
Msz. Nena replied: "Your skin is going to peel which means you should use a moisturizer daily (to help get rid of the dry skin)."
A FULL layer of skin peels off evEry day. Am I using too much benzoyl peroxide? I'm using 5% in the evenings and morning. And they both have one percent clindamycin. Plus i alsouse differin. And EVERY SINGLE DAY i have had to literally peel off an entire layer of skun... EVERY DAY! Do you guys think im using too much benzoyl peroxide?
need answers replied: "i would try using it one time a day and using a gentle face cream, followed by moisturizer instead of the benzoyl peroxide at night or morning (whichever you prefer) ."
&& im in-love-with-music replied: "uh, Duh.
its not that hard to deduce.."
does Differin really make ur skin peel this much?? I know that there is suppose to be some peeling and irritation involved while using Differen but Im not sure if it is the product or a reaction I am getting from it.
I went to my dermatologist about 6 days ago and told him that I have mild acne and that I have been starting to break out alittle more than I use to since the begining of May so he perscribed both Differin, to use before bed time, and Clindamycin Phosphate lotion in the morning.
The Differin started working like magic after the first day but I noticed a slight dryness and itching sensation between my eyebrows and along the bottom rims of my nose and thought it would go away after applying the lotion but as the days progressed it got even worse and now it is begining to peel really bad and some bumbs are starting to form and even the texture of the skin itself is starting to feel different....any advice??
Carol V replied: "I used to use differen. Not only did it severely peel my skin, but it made me depressed, and during the time of use, I constantly had severe panic/anxiety attacks. I have since those incedents switched to other medicines, and nothing seems to be working for me. I'm glad that you have found something that works for you, but I have yet (after 5 years) to find something that works for me."
VermilionPhoenix replied: ""Like magic".... Just like every other new treatment they hoark out of the labs...
Believe me, there's nothing new out there. Everything they give you is just some type of acid that WILL dry out your skin, causing your skin to overcompensate and make more oil, which in the end will just cause more acne. There's no real answer, other than finding what hormonal causes there are as to why you have overactive oil glands in the first place. Best of luck to you..."
Valerie, EMT replied: "I have been using Differin gel 0.1% for the past 8 years for my acne. I started using it when I was 13 and now I am 21. I had severe acne on my face, arms, and back. I have VERY sensitive skin, so a lot of the products I tried didn't work, including Pro-Active. This gel was the only thing that worked for me. As I said, I do have very sensitive skin and the same thing happened to me as it is to you. Mine would get so bad that it burned and peeled and itched at the same time. I found a solution to it though. Try using it every other day. On the nights that you aren't using it, buy a facial moisturizer cream. I use Dove deep moisture facial cream with an SPF of 15. I put that on at night in place of the Differin. It helps to keep my skin from burning and peeling. If every other day isn't working, try the Differin every 3 days. Nothing will work like magic and make the acne go away, but after consistant use over several months, it will take care of the problem. I know the literature for Differin says it takes a month to work and that acne can get worse before it gets better (which I found to be true when starting the gel). You definitely need to stop using it every day or you will destroy your skin. Don't quit using it but try every other day with a moisturizer cream. It worked for me and I got great results from Differin when everything else failed. Please be patient. This is from the Differin gel website:
ADVERSE REACTIONS: Some adverse effects such as erythema, scaling, dryness, pruritus, and burning will occur in 10-40% of patients. Pruritus or burning immediately after application also occurs in approximately 20% of patients. The following additional adverse experiences were reported in approximately 1% or less of patients: skin irritation, burning/stinging, erythema, sunburn, and acne flares. These are most commonly seen during the first month of therapy and decrease in frequency and severity thereafter. All adverse effects with use of DIFFERIN Gel during clinical trials were reversible upon discontinuation of therapy."
Am I sabotaging my skin with the acne products I'm using? I knew that benzoic acid is a free radical but, I recently learned that the prescription acne medications I use are converted to benzoic acid in the body! I really hate benzoyl peroxide because it has made my skin so sensitive and I know it's dangerous, but I'm afraid I'll break out like crazy if I stop. I've tried other things like salicylic acid (so much that my skin started peeling and the acne was still there), differin and clindamycin, even proactiv, but the prescription is the only thing that works well. I also use moisturizers with antioxidants in them, are they counteracting the effects of the medication. Also what age does acne stop? It started to get bad when I was 12, that's when I started puberty, but I'm 18 now so when will it go away?
Jussy (: replied: "benzoic peroxide is the most amazing pimple fighter.
if you're 18, then you shouldnt have ance for much longer.... once your hormones stop going insane, your pimples fade...
however your family history/skin type could make things different.
prescription ance fighters are the best and most reliable; just MAKE IT A HABIT!
if you do it every 3 or 4 days that isnt gonig to work, DAILY is key."
help please, Tretinoin cream .025% and clindamycin 1%? I am using them tretinoin at night and clindamycin during the day. its been over a month now and my face is starting to peel and buring and stinging and itching.it's hard to smile or move my lips. and its happening on my whole face, i don't use cotton balls to apply them, just my fingers. my skin is also chapping. should i keep useing it? what should i do? im going to see my dermatlogist monday.
Skin911 replied: "tretinoin is responsible for peeling of your skin;
clindamycin is the antiboitic (i presume this is for acne);
now that you're peeling, you can DECREASE usage of the tretinoin to avoid further and unnecessary peeling; but continue the clindamycon for continuous bacterial protection;
peeling/exfoliation is necessary to remove the topmost dull skin that clogs your pores and prevent blemishes to occur;
while clindamycin kills the bacteria..
tretinoin makes peeled skin more sensitive to the sun
so it's IMPORTANT to wear sunscreen to prevent sun damage and uneven skin tone.
other thing, use cotton balls to apply the medication..
it's less infectious and pressure on the face. :-)"
Dry skin due to prescription acne cream? I have been prescribed: Tretinoin Cream USP 0.05%, and Clindamycin 1% Gel 30 GM, for acne. Both of these eliminate acne almost perfectly for me, the only problem is they dry my skin out to the poin where it stings, and peels. I have tried Aveeno Active Naturals-Daily Moisturizing Lotion for my dry skin problems, but it has not worked. Usually it works that i put the prescribed acne products on for one day or a few hours at a time, and then my skin will peel for about 4 days, even with lotion on 24/7. Any suggestions on how to follow the directions on the prescriptions "Apply to Face Once Daily", and not have to worry about horribly dry skin?
Lunaeclipz replied: "Yes have heard of this dry skin reaction try oil of olay for sensitive skin"
Eden Rose replied: "You can try other lotions, but make sure they say on the container that they won't clog pores or that they're noncomedogenic (which means the same thing).
If lotion still doesn't work for you after a week or two, tell your dermatologist what's happening. It could be that the strength of the active ingredients in the cream and gel you're putting on your face are too strong, so your derm. can possibly give you a lower-strength prescription or try something milder."
sherlock replied: "don't use it as much if you have to stop useing it for a while"
HealthGuard replied: "Worsens with prescription acne cream, dry skin problems respond well to self-care measures, such as using moisturizers and avoiding long, hot showers and baths. If you have very dry and scaly skin, your doctor may recommend you use an all-natural cream that contains natural oils that gives soothing and glowing results.
In a more serious skin disease, such as ichthyosis or psoriasis, your doctor may prescribe prescription creams and ointments or other treatments in addition to home care.
Dry skin leads to dermatitis, which causes red, itchy skin. In these cases, treatment may include lotions with natural-oil ingredients. If your skin cracks open, your doctor may prescribe wet dressings with mildly astringent properties to contract your skin and reduce secretions and prevent infection.

Is it safe to use glycolic peels for acne scars while using antibiotics? I am currently taking erythromycin pills and clindamycin phosphate gel for acne. I am considering getting a glycolic peel as I have lots of scars and I have never seen a visible improvement in my skin in 6-7 years of struggling with acne. Would it be safe to get chemical peels and apply the clindamycin gel once a day at the same time? Can anyone share their thoughts or experiences please

Baby J replied: "I used to give glycolic peels, up to 70% in concentration. It depends on the type/concentration of peel you get (30%, 40%, etc) but generally I would tell peole to stop their topical antibiotics 3 days before the peel and 3 days after. If the person is getting a more concentrated peel, the time to be off the topicals is longer."
