Clomid vs. Femara- side effects? I was on Clomid last year and I gained like 5lbs with each cycle. My doctor never told me weight gain was a side effect. Now she is going to put me on Femara (my fertility doctor) and she said this does not have near the side effects...she said it will not make me gain weight but then the nurse said I would be bloated throughout the entire month because of hyperstimulation of my ovaries. I just wondered if anybody on here had any experience with weight gain or excessive bloating with Femara vs. clomid...or just in general with Femara. I am taking it for fertility, not breast cancer.

L C replied: "The two meds work differently to cause ovulation. People react to the differently as well. It's rare to have unbearable reactions to both drugs though so you might do very well on femara."

Clomid vs Femara? We have been TTC for 11 months. I have been having regular periods up until about 3 months ago. I am still ovulating but for some reason I am ovulating really late in my cycle. My doc wants to put me on Clomid. I have been reading about the awful side effects and am kinda scared. I have also read where women have more success with Femara than Clomid and that Femara does not have the side effects that Clomid does. Anyone have any experiences with either of these two? What is the difference between the two?

HIDY replied: "Femara is used "off label". There are risks of birth defects associated with this drug. I would personally recommend Clomid as much safer option."

Femara vs. Clomid and weight? My doctor prescribed me Femara and I will start taking it soon. She told me that she prescribed Femara over Clomid for me because the studies show that Femara is more effective in thinner women but Clomid is better for women over 145 or something like that. Just wondering if anyone else had heard that? Thanks!

reba replied: "I weighed around 200-210, and they prescribed clomid for me, but cycle #4 it quit working for me. I've gotten pregnant twice since on Femara. I've never heard about weight being any part of the equation about which to prescribe. Clomid can make your CM dry up, and Femara doesn't....so I think that makes it a better drug."

Femara VS. Clomid Question? I have PCOS and my doctor put me on 2000mg of Metformin last February. I have taken 6 rounds of Clomid (I ovulated on 5 out of the 6, but all BFN's)! Now my doctor said to take a month off and then start Femara 2.5 mg my next cycle. Will Femara benifit me, even though I did ovulate on Clomid? What do you think?

DiamondPrincess replied: "Well My re put me on clomid I did it for 3 cycles and got pregnant on my 3rd cycle. I ovulated each and every cycle. But I m/c @ 7wks so after 3months of rest. i did clomid again for 3 more cycles and nothing. Now my Re has Put me on Femara 2.5 twiced a day on cycle days 3-7. Alot of women on there have failed rounds of clomid and success the first go round with femara. I myself and about to start it my next cycle in about 2wks. I did all kinda combos with clomid I did 3 rounds of IUI and some HCG trigger shots and nothing nothing nothing Then My RE put me on Femara. This is my first cycle on it. But OMG I love it. NO side effects at all none. And I o'd on it to. So now im in my tww hopeing for the best. But deffinitely give Femara a try. It works wonder."

Anyone who has tried femara, even after clomid... what did you think? Did you like it, wasit successful? I did round 3 of clomid and i believe it was unsuccessful so I am going to the dr tomorrow and I wanted to get some info from ladies who have tried femara. How did you like it? vs clomid? letrozole femara.....???? vs.... clomiphene citrate (serophene)?? yesterday i went for my day 21 progestoren test results and im 0.2 =) the wierd thing is that i get my period evry month ...... but i also found out you can get your period and still not ovulate..... i think of it this way, at least finally i know whats wrong....... i was put on letrozole..... i tried clomid with no results...... anyone trying letrozole (femara) ???? what was the out come and how long were you on it????

chiquita11 replied: "the effectiveness and how long it takes depends from person to person, but on average it takes from 3 - 6 cycles, hopefully Femara will do the trick for you if not you can also ask your doctor about injectables, you can also ask an RE (fertility specialist) online for free to see what they think of the Femara, try good luck!"
