Find Diclofenac Sodium 75 in Questions
medical question? i went to have a blood test done recently, the doctor said i have an underactive thyriod. then he asked me THREE times if i drink alcohol, to which i told him because of the pills i am on i am not allowed to drink (which i do not), he then said 'r u sure u dont drink' and again i said no, he then said i have got to have an abdominal scan but not till november. my question is, i have been on 3 kinds of tablets for about 4 years, they are: diclofenac sodium and misoprostol (arthrotec 75), zamadol 200mg and amitriptyline. can any, if not all cause damage to ur insides and if so, what problems can they cause? any1 with information on what they think and there experiences on this problem will be greatfully received. thank you so much x

rhose replied: "why you did not ask your doctor and beside you pay for it"

diorchristian replied: "Not sure if this gives you any comfort, but any type of acidic tablet, for gastric issues makes your blood salty, you may have a small ulcer like me, try to watch your diet and have regular motions so not to be constipated. Smoking does not help either."

Bob Lee Swagger replied: "Diclofenac Belongs to the group of drugs called Fenamtes which are a class of Non-steriodal anti inflammatory Drug (NSAID's) they can cause Gasto intestinal problems if you do not use them as recommended. Check out "

RaddicalGrl25 replied: "arthrotec with alcohol can increase your risk of stomach ulcers..that could have been why he asked."

bluebadger replied: "In my experience, all drugs can have an effect on the system. I have been prescibed one drug to counter the effects of another. I have in the past been prescribed a drug known to cause liver disease. I was not screened for liver disease 1st. Unknown to anyone else I already had that, and it accelerated it. I currently take 5 types of meds. All state the effects they can have on ones insides. Most are damaging to the stomach lining, and can cause ulcers. Diclofenac is renowned for this, as is amitryptilene. I don't understand the reasons for an abdominal scan for underactive thyroid. It would be a necessary evil for an ulcer. I think you need to go back to your doc, and discuss the matters with him/her."

jackie m replied: "Stomach is nothing to do with thyroid, your thyroid gland is in your neck, don't know what problems the pills cause but it is not connected to your under-active thyroid, you should get blood test to check and if it is under active you take thyroxine pills every day for ever."

sean replied: "If i were to put 2 and 2 together here I would say that the medication you are on may have caused some liver damage. The damage would show very easily on an "LFT blood test" (liver function test) but it wouldn't show what the cause was. All medicines are "hepato-toxic" to some extent and your medications are quite powerful treatments especially if they are taken regularly over long periods of time. Its probabaly time to ask a few more questions and maybe to consider the risks versus benefits of the diclofenac, arthrotec, zamadol and amitriptyllin. Having said that I can see that you have considerable pain and the prescribing doctor should not be criticised as he/she is obviously trying hard to help you control the pain."

colin411550 replied: "You have myxoedma, an under-active thyroid, caused by deficiency of the thyroid hormone. Most common in middle-aged woman after the menopause. You will have to take Thyroxin tablets probably for life, but your doctor has to check the lining of your stomach to see if your stomach can absorb the thyroxin. Alcohol causes ulcers, and the medications you are on can cause thinning of the stomach lining too. Therefore, an abdominal scan is necessary to determine what state your stomach is in before he can prescribe treatments, because it is very, very important that you take thyroxin as soon as possible otherwise you will have more serious problems due to the lack of thyroxin in the near future. Do cooperate with your doctor but be assertive and tell him to explain everything before you leave the surgery, and there is loads of information on the Internet about the subject. OK."

CC replied: "These pills can damage your stomach lining They can also give you ulcers Sounds like he is also worried about liver damage Do you have arthritis, you have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of being on these pills for that long. You should always discuss this with your doctor and be sure to read the leaflets that come with the pills."

DOT replied: "Go to Webmd.com Go to the drugs listings and it will tell you the side effects of your meds."

Anita A replied: "Hi all median esp pills cause liver Damage, liver disease, hart pr obs , hart disease, cancer,i no a few people who have thyroid and its a mild where you take one pill a day but i don't no if its the same one. I was on Zoloft for a months then i quiet taken them because its will cause me to get liver damage and i will be very sick in my 40. I'm taking 2 kinds of fish pills and B50 complex pills one a day. If i were you i will try to heal you self or go to a special Herb Dr."

Caroline P replied: "If you are pre-menopausal you shouldn't be taking arthrotec. Misoprostol is the drug used for medical abortion, therefore it is not recommended for women of child bearing age (I had a GP try to put me on it once and I refused on this basis - I was 23 at the time). Diclofenac is an NSAID, and therefore damages gastric lining (I have seen a lot of patients with GI bleeds from taking these drugs - I even lost my darling Grandad to it (in case you were wondering I'm an endoscopy sister)), so you should be on ideally a PPI (something like losec (omeprazole)) with it. The tramadol can constipate, so you need to make sure you have a good fluid intake. Amitriptyline in some extreme cases can cause jaundice, so I would think that your liver function may be off slightly. You didn't give your age, but if you are pre-menopausal I would ask for a drug review and come off the arthrotec, and get some losec added in to the mix to help your stomach. You are also entitled to know what your GP is querying as a diagnosis, so make an appointment and ask him at the same time."
