Raven Eyes JPA replied: "Weight gain is not a side effect of Citalopram. However, depression can lead to comfort eating, so it is sensible to watch your calorie intake."
phillip b replied: "what is paramount is to choose your healing route------ carefully-- be really aware that the conventional treatment for this can be horrendous and you can go on for years with no improvement and massive damaging detrimental side effects from meds . Do read this very carefully and try and understand the principles behind what is being said .
Evaluate all of this info well this info will save you years of suffering ---years if you apply it ..
This will educate you on our health care system and its dire limitations
All treatment recommended by the doctors should be tested and approved and quite rightly so.
That makes sense right .it costs millions to test and approve treatments because of the possible damage to people..
Drug companies Fund most research and will only and I mean only look at treatments, which show the promise of good deal of a profit, --they will actively dismiss any therapy which does not have profit potential thus your doctor will only recommend therapies with profit in them.
Despite The fact that some of these other therapies mentioned do have overwhelming benefits some, which have saved needless amputations, needless pain and trauma, and much loss of life. Drugs are not the answer for depression with mind altering chemicals or any other mental illness. This is a fundamental principle and unless you grasp this fully you could /will have years of suffering ahead of you .
This does not help you though when you are ill and sufferingnot hearing about therapies which can help from a person you look up to and trust Have you heard your local doctor recommend, Massage Spiritual healing, Herbs, Light therapy,Colour therapy, the violet ray therapy, Osteopathy, Electrical Frequency devices.
These therapies will work for many complaints of a so called mental nature
we have thousands of testimonials and results showing years of successful applications
Do this and I will guarantee improvements to you inside a day its that simple, of course getting these things in place can be much harder. Each therapy can have a very beneficial influence on you.
Print this all off save it and enact it and share it --- of course someone to help you get these therapies in your life is invaluable but do not be swayed by them trying for short cuts .
1,get someone to massage your back and legs at least 3 times a week use peanut oil or a mix of 50-50 olive and peanut oil.
2 use the violet ray machine an Edgar Cayce device google search this --- 3 times a week on the other days especially on the spine.we use it every day with very positive results
3.get a tent sleep out side 3times a week utilising earth energy - nature can help big time especially with how you feel how much energy you have
4 study and apply good nutrition-- adequate minerals all of them particularly calcium and magnesium iron essential fatty acids omega 3 6 9 protein etc
5 ensure your thyroid is working well
7 ensure you do at least I hr per day some kind of voluntary work when you are able..the reasons you are ill , or poor or have allsorts of bad things happen to you is because of karma -----usually from past lives but some from this one voluntary work will offset your mistakes--- how much it offsets well that is down to god and how much you do. Healing us is in direct proportion to the help we give others ie your healing comes with helping others achieve theirs so if people are doing very little in helping others ---they suffer more and longer...and if they are doing a lot they get well faster....so now you know what to do ,,and like a lot of us are already doing being of service.
8 be amongst people who are giving, friendly who have time for you who love you , choose your friends well
9 be or get to a place which personally love or like
10 get and do some work which you like or love
11 ensure you do no acts which hurt or inflict on anyone dont want to add to your karma do we !!!
12 spiritual healing yes and reiki -.
13think good positive thoughts, laughter, look at comedy, play good uplifting music,
14 avoid at all costs exposure to violence, murders, suffering ,death ,tragedies, -feed upon good things uplifting things, things that feel like a breath of fresh air..
15 Positive affirmation- thats right programme your self in the mirror , thoughts are things words are things actions are things , all have influence, few people realise these things can have an effect on themselves .
16 a detox ------ toxins can influence how you feel big time
17 hugs get plenty of them in your daily life you would be amazed at how people feel after a few decent hugs.
18 loads of exercise running walking climbing but something which you enjoy
19 rid yourselves of all aspartame laden foods and drink and many additives get back to a wholesome organic diet diet
A total cure however is tied up with karma so you can imagine just how important is the voluntary work."
Does Celexa/Citalopram cause weight gain? I went to the doctor today and he prescribed me something for depression. I admit that I have been a little "sad" since I've had my son 3 months ago, and most of it is due to the fact that I went from 150lbs to 264lbs during my pregnancy; after being weighed at the doctor's office today I discovered that I was 257lbs! I'm 5ft7 and I KNOW I shouldn't weigh this much, I am constantly struggling with my weight and I am trying so hard to lose all of this extra weight gain, but it seems like the sadder I get, the more I eat! Will this pre ion help me with my depression and not make me gain any weight. If not, what should I mention to my doctor to try instead?
I forgot to mention that he started me out with 20mg of this medication.
Tamara replied: "I m not a doctor but I think that Celexa will help you manage your depression which will then help you manage your weight. Often, our emotions are connected to our eating and some times can lead to us abusing our bodies by either over eating or under eating. Also, when you feel depressed you might want to go for a walk or join a woman's fitness center. I say take the dosage and slowly get back into an exercise regimen. I doubt if it ll make you gain weight. The probability is low; if anything it should help you lose weight because you ll have more energy by being less depressed. Talk your doctor and seek more then one opinion if you are skeptical. Good luck and God bless."
what weight changes does citalopram cause? today i have started taking 10mg of citalopram a day. I am want whether it will cause weight gain or weight loss. All the websites i have visited tell me something different.
Lue R replied: "Hi I don't have an answer for you my doctor just prescribed 20mg for me. I feel a little drowsy. I believe I will be taking this at night.
My drug sheets that came with the medicine stated a possible side effect of weight-loss. However, several websites that I have read state that they will cause weight-gain. Good Luck on it. !!!!!"

Will the medicine CITALOPRAM HBR cause weight gain? its a subtitute for CELEXA 10mg
Gavin T replied: "Celexa is citalopram, Celexa is a brand name, citalopram is the drug name."
btokatsh replied: "NO i've taken it before and am about to try it again, just watch out.. it makes your inhibitions go away and you get very very happy and forget to watch your diet because your mood changes from "woe is me" to "woooah let's party" ... just watch what you eat or you will gain wt. its not that it increases your appetite, its that you just do what you want because you feel so free, and if you want to eat u will, and possibly over indulge"
Citalopram and weight gain? I have been on Citalopram for a few months now, and i have gained about 7 pounds in weight...i walk miles, and work out, and eat low fat food, and salad etc, but i just cannot! budge the weight, and it is getting me down now. Anyone know if my medication could be causing me to gain weight?
90210 replied: "it could well be. have you read the boring bit of paper which comes with the medication. I read it now and then to see how many of the side effects i have got. Ive been on them for years. if unsure ask your GP next time you go."
sally replied: "I dont think so.
I have also been prescribed Citalopram but as I suffer from binge eating and bulimia, I would doubt very much that the doctor would prescribe me something which would make me gain weight.
I am interested to hear other answers too."
clairelouise replied: "citalopram can cause weight gain, but it can also cause weight loss (as it did in my case!) so its worth chatting things through with your GP.
theres no point in just putting up with it, because there are other anti-depressants out there which may suit you better. sometimes you just have to try one or two before you find the one that works best for you
in the mean time, just try and keep up with the healthy diet and exercise. that can help mental health in itself :)"
Weight gain on depo, depakote, citalopram...? Hi - It's quite a long story so I'll try to be brief...
I am a bulimic.
I have bipolar disorder and am on 60mg citalopram and 750mg depakote for it.
I am on 150mg Lamotrigine for my epilepsy.
Because of the way my drugs are metabolised, I had to come off the pill and go on the injection.
I've put on about 2 stone and it's making me more depressed than ever.
I'm going to ask my shrink about cutting down the depakote because I know that can cause weight gain.
But also the depo can - and I think citalopram can in some people (though it didn't seem to with me).
But I'd like some advice regarding the depo - would it be worth switching to the patch or to the implant or something instead? Are they less likely to cause weight gain? I was on dianette for my contraception and it was fantastic for me. I really wish I could still take it :-(
Any suggestions would be very gratefully received. X
prisonplanet.tv replied: "that's what those kinds of drugs do sorry to tell ya I don't know of any that don't cause weight gain or at the very least sexual side effects like decreased libido or other sexual problems."
could the contraceptive pill or anti depressants be causing my weight gain? since having my daughter 10 months ago i have gained 4 stone in weight. for the last 2 months i have been exercising and healthy eating (salads, jacket potatoes, pasta, vegetables etc) and have been unable to shed even 1lb. could the contraceptive pill (marvelon) or my anti depressants (citalopram 40mg) be the cause of this massive weight gain?
Gemz replied: "Some anti-depressants are known to cause weight gain. If ur unhappy go 2 ur doctor. They should b able 2 look at the bigger picture. After all, weight gain isn't healthy if it's 2 much. They may b able 2 give u a different medication.
Different things work 4 different ppl.
good luck!"

Birthcontrol and many antidepressants will cause weight changes. If it is a big issuse for you. Talk to your doctor about switching medication. All women react differently to birthcontrol pills and other medication. Best of luck"
Mirtazapine weight gain? Hi I was taking 30mg of mirtazapine taken at night, until Dec 2008, and had been on it for several years. I and my GP believe it contributed significantly to weight gain, as I do not over eat and also try to eat healthily.
In January 2009, I became depressed again and my GP put me on 20mg of Citalopram, taken in the morning - whilst I was losing weight at a steady pace, the insomnia and feeling like a zombie was too much to bear.
I was taken off that and restarted 15mg of mirtazapine 2 weeks ago which again I take at night. Mirtazapine has a sedative effect, and whilst I sleep fine now, I have already put on 7 pounds!
The SSRI's I have found that have a side effect of losing weight which I want, also cause insomnia which I cannot stand. Does anyone take an SSRI that acts as a sedative and does not cause weight gain?
Thanks for reading this rather long winded question.
bantam replied: "Hi
My sister in law took Mirtazapine and has gained so much weight.
I take a drug called Trazodone, which is for insomnia, depression and anxiety. It's not a Tricyclic antidepressant (or an SSRI), more a "one of a kind" med, but it's usually grouped in with those as they're the closest ones. Side effects I have had are mild dizziness and dry mouth. I take 150mg before bed and it really knocks you out!
I do not know of any SSRIs that have a strong sedative effect. I've tried a few and didn't feel they worked. They kept me awake and if I fell asleep I would wake up frequently.
Trazodone gives you a hangover for a few days but it's worth persevering as my anxiety and depression is much more controllable.
Here's the Wikipedia article:"
mEn7aL replied: "I am taking cymbalta since,it was increased I cannot sleep and I take ambien with it too at night. When you notice a change tell your doctor so they can switch you.I had weight gain from zoloft and prozac and tons of other meds but cymbalta made me eat less and sleep less too but it works and I feel good.
good luck."
Spirited soul replied: "I totally know how your feeling, I'm currently on mirtazapine 45mg, and like yourself iv been on and off it for years,
When i first started it, it was called zispin, i was 17 at the time and found that i put on roughly 8lbs each month, this concerned me alot especially as the medication was workin so well.
Your dose of 15mg has more of a sedative effect than a higher dose of mirtazapine. I went to my drs an said i wasn't happy about the significant weight gain, they referred me to weight management clinic, although this helped slightly, i did find out that certain ingredients in mirtazapine do make you crave certain foods. The only two things i can suggest is that you could either put yourself on a high fibre diet, (not much fun) or maybe you could see your gp and ask for a review of your meds, cymbalta is a fairly new drug thats meant to have very few side effects, fluoxetine is another rather useful one. I think the thing with mirtazapine is the fact that they work so fast.
I wish ya all the best. And hey, if ya do find a good anti depressant be sure to let me know... As just like you, my battle with my weight due to mirtazapine continues,.
Good luck x"
