How long after taking doxycycline do you stop showing signs of chlymidia? We have both been treated with a 1 week dose of doxycycline. Yesterday was my last day of treatment, but today I had a slight sign of discharge. Should I be worried? (We have not had sex during our course of treatment....)

Ryan M replied: "Id go straight back to the doctor make sure you kill the infection if not it will just come back! It sounds to me like its not dead yet you get more medication and treat it quickly. Signed, Youre Good Friend. -Ryan M"

thorn105 replied: "I wouldnt worry if it is still getting better. It can sometimes take ANY illness being treated with antibiotic a day or two after the antbiotic is finished to clear all the way up. After 3 days, if you are still having symptoms, or start tunning a fever before then, definitely call your doctor. You may need another round or a stronger dose. It does not always cure it all the first time. It depends on how long you've had it and how bad an infection you had. (Keep on NOT having sex during the course of treatment. Good thinking.)"

bedbugsbite replied: "I am in the same situation you are in. About a month and a half ago I found out I had chlamydia too and my doctor prescribed me the one day dose of azithromycin, but after i took it i still had a lot of abdominal and pelvic pain. I called my doctor, had to wait a month for another check-up, and found out I still had it. So now I'm on the doxycycline for a week to see if this will help get rid of it. call your doctor and schedule an appointment to make sure it is all cleared up."

What is the most common dose of Doxycycline for a 16 yr old with acne? People are on anywhere from 50mgs to 200mgs a day, Ive read. What would it be for a 16 yr old with a moderate to severe case of acne? Im trying to get opinions before I take him to the doctor. It will be a GP because we dont have a dermo here. If they are prescribed 100mgs a day, do they break that into 50mg doses?

ashleigh h replied: "100 mg daily is the one i see most often... i work at a pharmacy. doxycycline can have some serious side effects tho especially if you go out in the sun...you should avoid sun if you're on doxy. Whatever you do please do not let the doctor put your son on Accutane or Sotret. These cause SEVERE birth defects in women amongst other things such as PSYCHOSIS. Personally i see people getting alot of good results from topical treatments like: Benzaclin Duac Gel there's a whole bunch of different options are u seeing a GP or a dermatologist? i suggest the dermatologist"

vin60130 replied: "100 mg once or twice daily, depending on amount and type of acne"

Side effects I got from doxycycline for acne? Should I take my 2nd dose? I took my first dose (2 tablets) of 100mg doxycycline yesterday and in about 15 minutes after taking it I got blurred vision, dizziness and cold chills. I'm planning to contact my doctor about it tomorrow. Do you think I should take another dose today or just leave it until I call my doctor?

Can I take another dose of doxycycline? I had one this morning and have been doing it for a few weeks and have not seen any difference in my skin. By the way it is 100 MG. This is for my acne.

queeniejosephine replied: "You should not exceed the stated dose unless your doctor tells you to and certainly not for acne."

Free2Bee.... replied: "Follow the dosing instructions your doc gave....All pimples start about two weeks prior to they actually become visible and ready to erupt...The best thing to help motivate clearer skin is washing all dirt and oil from your face about three times daily with a none abrasive, none deodorant soap..like Stephi..or Phisoderm if your acne is sever and there are pimples that are at all different stages...If you have any cream from the doc to apply to the surface of the breakout sites use it as prescribed....Take care."

what dose the drug doxycycline hyclate 100mg do for you ? it dont say on the bottle what they do so what are they any good if i dont even know what they do?

LiFe_iS_PeAcHy99 replied: "Doxycycline is an antibiotic in the drug class tetracyclines. If this was prescribed for you, I suggest you take it and finish the full course of therapy."

Melissa R replied: "It is usually given for bronchitis or pneumonia.....It is a good antibiotic, strong and if you a woman takes it and is on Birth control it strong enough to knock her birth control out.......so she better use protection........"

beanodom replied: "Doxycycline breaks me out in a massive rash. LOL... It is an antibiotic though and you should take it until its gone. (if it was prescribed for you) ."

How Effective Are Doxycycline, Minocycline, and Tetracycline in Treating Acne? I'm taking 200 mg of doxycycline a day for my mild inflammatory acne, and I tried lose dose accutane before that, but it failed. Are doxycycline, minocycline, and tetracycline very effective in teating mild to severe acne? I hope this works, because I've run out of options.

Michelle B replied: "Go to Walmart and purchase some sulfer. It's a yellow powder. Mix it with some type of moisturizer and pat it on the acne. I promise it will work...just DON'T get this in your eyes it burns really bad!"

Roger McGee replied: "I noticed very little change after starting tetracycline. I used it for about 3 months, then gave up. I would not recommend it. All in all, it was a waste of money, stained my teeth (a common side-effect of long-term antibiotics), and made my acne harder to treat because it built up a resistance to antibiotics. From what I have heard (And semi-experienced - although I have never tried accutane), the only oral medication that really consistently works is regular to high dosage Accutane, otherwise just stick with topical stuff. Good luck!"

How long does it take for Doxycycline side effects to diminish? I was giving doxycycline at the hospital via IV for 3 days for a bacterial infection and then sent home with 100mg twice a day. I have had some pretty bad side effects...very tight chest, loss of energy, tight throat and stomach cramping. I took my last dose this morning...can someone that has experienced this please tell me how long this will stay in my system and keep me feeling crumby. Thanks so much.

painfuladdiction replied: "Hey, I'm so sorry. I was on them (pills) for about a week and I had almost the same side effects and they go away in about a day or two.. especially if you rest alot and drink a lot of fluids. Hope you feel better soon. =)"

Is it possible for my immune system to build up a resistance to doxycycline after 7 weeks? I have been on doxycycline for 10 weeks. It was working terrific for the first 7 weeks, but then it was all downhill. Now I was 5 hours late on one of my doses; I don't know if that had something to do with it. My face was looking sooo well, but now most of it's back. I don't know if I should keep taking it or not? Please help.

Peter H replied: "First, it's not the immune system which develops resistance to antibiotics, it's the germs against which antibiotics are directed. If things are not doing too well have another word with your doctor."

davidosterberg1 replied: "Its not your immune system that develops a resistance, its the organisms the antibiotic is working against that develop the immunity. Have your dermatologist order a culture and sensitivity."

Prescribed azithromycin today and took two initial tablets, not thinking I had taken doxycycline this a.m. OK? Prescribed azithromycin today and took the two initial tablets, not thinking that I had taken a dose of doxycycline this a.m. Should I be worried about this or will it most likely be okay?

MedLabGuy replied: "Hi, You are okay, there is nothing to worry about. These are two different classes of antibiotics, so if anything it will help a little more. These antibiotics are not very toxic so you should be okay. Nate Med Lab Scientist"
