Does anyone know how Strattera and Lexapro work together? I am a 38 yr old female. I've been taking Lexapro for 2yrs. Today I was diagnosed with ADD and was prescribed Strattera. He said this works really well together, because the Lexapro boosts the seratonin in the brain and the Strattera boosts the dophimines, so they work with each other. I've read a lot of the horror stories of the Strattera with mood swings, I'm hoping the Lexapro will stop them from happening? If anyone has taking these together please advise. Thank You! Wen

It has been 2 weeks since you posted this question, if you feel O.K. then don't worry - but if you do start having mood swings, see you DR for an alternative medicine. There are lots of medicines available - you just have to pay close attention to your body and moods to get the right combination. Are you seeing a family DR or (hopefully) a specialist? The reason I ask is a specialist can offer much more in depth answers. Hope this helps ease your concerns."

Does Strattera work, or is it really as bad as I hear it is? I have been prescribed 10mg to supplement my 60mg of Cymbalta for OCD and depression. This is supposed to be for my ADD, and I noticed I've been more focused in just almost a week. But others say they get sick as a dog. Is this the medicine?

soccerlove replied: "yeah im add strattera is for ADD. i tried focalin and HATED IT. you should try vyvanse."

jimgray2 replied: "There are four things that can happen with medications: 1. They do what they're supposed to do. 2. They give you bad side effects 3. They make your problem worse or give you new problems 4. They do nothing They'll either do one or a combination of these. I took Strattera for about 6 months, I think the pharmacy screwed up and gave me sugar pills. Unless it makes you worse off than you were before you don't need to stop taking them. If they do nothing then you can try raising your dosage and if that doesn't work then try something else. Side effects will usually go away or become tolerable after a while. If the medication works for you, which you say it does, then keep taking it. Every person's biology is different and medications are going to have different effects on different people. Also, don't focus on the horror stories. There are probably around a million people who take Strattera and they're fine."

combackkidxxx replied: "i've heard strattera to not be very affective. talk to your doc about adderall. i have had ADHD for 11 years now and i've been on three diff meds[including my adderall xr] i've been on concerta and ritalin previous to my year of adderall XR use. they do not work as much as the adderall xr. i do know that strattera is also not the most popular and effective medicine....at anything, adderall is the best med to be taken with an antidepressant or mood stabilizers.. it does not have a bad interaction with those. cymbalta is also prescribed as a sleeping aid for some.. if it does not work very well for you..also talk to the doc about zoloft. it is a great antidepressant to treat OCD,anxiety and depression."

sexytracie609 replied: "It is a mixture between the medication and the individual's body. I work at a pharmacy and one thing I have learned is that there are various types of medicines for the same diagnoses. If this works for you, stick to it. If you did have any type of negative effects all you would do is go to your doctor and he would find something else for you to take. It is extremely common for patients to try out several types of medications for the same thing before they find one that fits them."

Does Strattera work for you and if so, at what doseage? I was wondering how effective you think Strattera is. I used to be on Aderral which was very effective, but my new doctor doesn't believe in perscribing addictive drugs (I'm a recovering addict), so I'm now on Strattera. Was just wondering if any of you have had a good experience with it, and if so, at what doseage?

spaceytracey3 replied: "Strattera has worked wonders for my kids.....The dosage is prescribed by your weight."

lil_rebbitzen replied: "Adderall XR was the only thing that helped my ADHD. Strattera didn't even touch me. Be warned, Strattera got a black box warning for increasing suicidal thoughts in children and adolescents. If you aren't in either of theose categories, you probably will be fine (unless you have a prior history of depression and suicide attempts/suicidal tendencies.) I would suggest talking to your doctor about it still. See source for more information. I hope you find something that works for you!"

when does strattera start to work? i have been taking starttera for 3 days now 40mg. i feel jittery and tired all the time and the doctor wants me to double up on the the 4th day. i was just wondering when this med starts to kick in and if the jitteryness goes away? i dont feel like i am anymore motivated or less depressed at all.

angelarms66 replied: "Most medications for depression must be taken for at least 3 weeks before you start feeling the effects from them and full effects can take up to 6-8 weeks. You must build the medication up in your system in order for the medication to work properly. I suggest if you don't start feel better after at least another 2 weeks to contact your health care professional. Good luck! : )"

How well does strattera work for adult ADD? I'm thinking of asking my Dr. about putting me on it.? I was diagnosed with ADD in high school and haven't been on medication since then (about 8 years ago). My ADD is pretty much taking over my life, ruining my relationship and causing such difficulties in school that I STILL haven't graduated from college. I am in desperate need of help and have a doctors appointment on July 1st. I wonder if strattera is the medicine for me.

*PrettyInPink* replied: "Well I'm not a doctor but I have been taking strattera for 4 years and it helps me concentrate a lot better than without meds and it helps me foccus and get through the day. If you do take strattera make sure you take your meds with food because it can cause nausea. Don't know if I was much help but good luck to you."

My son has been prescribed strattera for ADHD, does this work? My 8 year old son has been taking strattera for a couple days now. I haven't noticed any change. I would like know if this drug works and if your child is taking it, have you seen any change? Please let me know, I would love to here from other mother's who have to deal with children with ADHD!!

Aoife replied: "I am not a mother, I am an adult male with AADD. I've been on Strattera for two years now and yes, I can tell a difference. The differance was not "overnight" but over time. All the Best"

Kristy H replied: "My 8 year old son has been on Strattera for exactly 14 days now and I'm ready to take him off! I'm going to call the doctor first thing in the morning. We really didn't notice any changes until maybe the last five days or so. He has completely withdrawn from any of his usual pastimes, riding his bike, drawing pictures, swimming, etc. He is usually a very boisterous, cheerful little boy, but lately he has been very somber and quiet. His outburst have disappeared but so has his personality. He also wont eat, throws up and has nervous ticks such as tapping himself. This is all very strange and scary!! I would rather have my little boy back along with his lack of impulse control! Be sure to watch for any of these symptoms with your son as time goes on. Good luck to you!"

how does strattera work for adult add? i was on adderal xr for about 5 days.it was night and day i felt like i could take on the world and anything it threw at me but..i have some anxiety issues and i would take my addreal in the mouring then when i was just starting to get doen at work i would crash.felt weak and tired dizzy all kind of weird feelings.one night i had massive chest pains my fingers went numb i didnt knwo what was going on.i went to er said i had a anxiety attack was very scary so i called my doctor and told him im not takign it anymore.all the side effects didnt seem worth the pros of being on it.but i dont want to give up just yet.so iheard about strattera im just wondering how those nonstimulants work for add.

domojj24 replied: "ive tried straterra and it worked wonders but its so expensive ive also tried adderal one time and i felt like a zombie."

does strattera work for add? My child has add does strattera work

Divine Bovine replied: "Yes. Also, it is the only non-controlled substance that is approved for the treatment of ADD. So basically its either that or amphetamines. Best of luck to you and your kid. Edited to add: If you want to look up more info on it, its generic name is Atomoxetine (though no generic is available), and it is produced by Eli Lilly."

abby_momo_tucker replied: "I tried strattera and had no luck in controlling my ADD. I actually experienced much worse from taking it then just dealing with my ADD with no medication. But all medications are different for each person. I wanted to try it because it was a non-stimulant. I wish it would have worked but I will look into others now. I'd definately look into it as a first try but if it doesn't work, don't let it discourage you from using all medications."

How does Strattera compare with Adderall and Ritalin? I know Adderall and Ritalin is often abused in colleges for better grades. Is Strattera the same? Does it produce the same effects like increased concentration?

nonlinear replied: "No, Adderall and Ritalin are stimulants that are in and out of your system in mere hours. Literally, due to the half-life of these pills, you withdraw from their effects hours after you take them. Straterra works more like anit-depressents in that it takes weeks to build up enough in your system to be helpful and you have to take it regularly or you will feel bad. For me Straterra helped a little with concentration but seemed to do more for my memory but that is the effect. It did make my ADHD better but my insurance company and I didn't like some of the side effects. Hope I answered your question."

Why Does My add medication Strattera lessen my creativity? I have been taken Strattera for several years. I somethings go off of it to the dismay of my brother. When I take the Strattera regualary, I have strange moments where i want to say something but I hesitate and kind of go blank from time to time. Also I find it harder to be creative and my imagnation does not seem to be as strong. Can anyone expalin why/how for this side effect?

Xanney replied: "i take strattera... it does inhibit the random thoughts (creativity)... your dosage might be too high, you only need enough to get that bouncing thought out of your head... you know what i mean... you know what i mean... you know what i mean..."

Me S replied: "Because the actual ADD makes a person more creative. The mind ventures more therefore you are more inventive. The medication is designed to counter the ADD therefore hindering some of that creativity."
