The doctor just prescribed me Wellbutrin does anybody have any information on how it works? I'm a little afraid to take it. does anyone takes it and know how it it feels and works. so i can feel a little more at ease. i really would apreaciate it!

tracee1117@verizon.net replied: "I was prescribed Wellbutrin and it made my blood pressure low. I would get up in the morning and all I wanted to do was lay down. I had to be prescribed something else. This medication is for many different things. I am on Prozac now and I can see the world a lot better now. I focus a lot better on this medication. I hope this makes you at ease. It is ok to try this. It will help you and if it does not then have your Dr. get you something else to ease whatever it is that is bothering you. Take care!!"

sweetness replied: "Don't take it, you should go with prozac."

wellbutrin? Hello. I would like to get some specific information about wellbutrin for depression. Is it effective long term? For how long people can continue to take it? I understand that it has not been tested in trial beyond 44 weeks or so{I may be wrong about the number}, however I was hoping that regular people have used it for a longer period of time. Are there any withdrawal symptoms? Many Thanks.

krbisghey replied: "I know you're looking for someone with wellburtin experience to answer, but until then, check out this site:"

briane777666777 replied: "Ive been on and off(mostly on) wellbutrin for over 5 years. - at no point has it stopped working for me. - no withdrawal(unlike the ssri's), however if u stop taking it the symptoms it was treating could return. -it can be taken indefinately(some people need it for life, like me) *keep in mind, of course, that everyone respnds to meds differently."

rgriffis68 replied: "I responded very positively to this drug. I had to take more than the 450mg "maximum" (600mg) daily to get a full response. After 2 years of full remission from depression, it started to wear off slowly. It also caused some urinary tract problems, which can be common with long-term use. Unfortunately, by the time I figured out (or stopped denying that I wasn't) depressed again, I had lost my job and was a complete mess. I don't want to turn you off to Wellbutrin per se, just share my particular experience. It's hard to find a drug that works longterm, so go with you and your doctor's experience and instincts. Good luck."

lil sammy replied: "I've been taking it for a year. I was on 150 mgs xl, but got kinda blue again, so we just switched to 100 mgs of sr 2x a day, and wow, what a difference in 2 days! I really like this med. I've had no side effects at all. And I've tried a few before this. It also takes care of my ADHD problems. My doctor has no plans to take me off in the future. However, if you drink, you may want to get your blood panel done every now and again as this drug is very hard on your liver. Mine came back kinda funky on my last test, but duh, less beer and more vitamins for me. I did have to abruptly stop for a week as it was in lost luggage on a trip, and no problems whatsoever. Good luck :)"

meowzie replied: "I have been on Wellbutrin XL for over 7 years. I will stay on it for life as long as it keeps working. It is the first antidepressant that has never stopped working for me in my life. I have been on numerous and they have all stopped working somewhere between 2-3 years. At one point I was suddenly taken off it for over a week due to surgery and the arrogant surgeon not believing that I needed it. The surgery was out of town and they refused to contact my doctor. I did not experience any withdrawal symptoms. Please realize that this is my experience and everyone is different. I hope I have been some help!"

Can someone who has gained weight on every SSRI remain weight-neutral with a combo of an SSRI + Wellbutrin? I have been on numerous SSRIs in the past for anxiety and OCD, but I also have concentration issues (perhaps ADD). I am scared of Adderall, so I'm trying Wellbutrin in addition to an SSRI. I'm concerned with getting even more anxious, but I assume it can't be as bad as Adderall would be. So, my question is - can the Wellbutrin counteract the metabolism-based weight gain experienced with an SSRI? I can only find information on the use of Wellbutrin to mitigate sexual side-effects. Not so much about weight stabilization.

Heather S replied: "I take Wellbutrin, it was because I gained weight on Zoloft (30 lbs) and Paxil, and Prozac made me feel like a zombie and I did not like the sexual side effects. I have been taking Wellbutrin for about two years now and have not gained weight from it. I do not take an ssri along with it though, the wellbutrin has helped some for my ocd and I also take anti anxiety medication."

stacia replied: "It has a positive effect on weight for some, not for others. You'll only know how it works for you when you try it. Same holds for the anxiety impact. Wellbutrin, however, does help with ADD like symptoms for quite a few. Sorry, psych meds vary pretty widely from person to person. Good luck. I hope this med works for you."

Is it bad to combine lexapro, wellbutrin, and adderall? I currently take 20mg of lexapro, 450mg of wellbutrin, and 10mg of adderoll per day (the adderoll I only take for workdays because the lexapro can make me sleepy and not able to focus). I just want to make sure that there isn't a problem with this combination or what information anyone might have about it. I suffer from OCD, depression, and who knows what else.

cryssyo replied: "You're on a very precarious ledge my friend. I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you that all that medication can't be good for you in the long run."

Nikki replied: "If your doctor prescribed this then I would say yes, but if you want to be safe, please call a local pharmacist like at Walgreen's, or your local drug store and they will tell you. If you had them filled and the druggist didn't say anything, then I wouldn't worry."

deshane2530 replied: ".I agree that you should contact a pharmacist."

CNJRTOM replied: "Lexapro and Wellbutrin are okay together. Not sure about the Adderall. Try taking the Lexapro at night... then it makes you sleepy when you're going to sleep anyway. That's what I have to do."

Rockford replied: "I take lexapro and wellbutrin. You take quite high dose of lexapro. I take the wellbutrin for energy because the lexapro makes me sleepy. But I only take half a dose of lexapro. I can't imagine taking 20mg. That would zonk me out, lol"

Andy replied: "I don't see this as a bad combination. The best to ask though would be the prescribing doctor or a pharmacist but I don't think any of these medications interact though."

I have been prescribed Wellbutrin, how long does it usually take for your body to adjust to the medication? I am having headaches and nausia. I had headaches before, probably from the depression? But these headaches are in a different area of my head. I was just wondering if anyone had these effects when they first started taking it. I've read all the information about side effects, and I understood I might have some. There is no mention about how long it will take for your body to adjust to the medication that I have seen.

William B replied: "I have been on it for years. It takes a good week for Wellbutrin to truly kick in. Just relax it will make you feel better about yourself. For more info go to: "

richard t replied: "if it is hurting you a lot,go back to the Doc.he has lots of different drugs..........maybe another one will not have all these effects on you.......at least ask him how long. good luck"

hanz2602 replied: "hi it normally takes about 3 weeks...if this AD fails ask your doctor about Cymbalta...it has far fewer side effect and only takes a few hours to start working so no transition from one AD to another...good luck"

xo379 replied: "Your headaches might be a side effect of Wellbutrin. When you first start taking an antidepressant, the side effects can kick in within 3 days; however, you don't feel the positive results (ie. it really helping your depression) for about 3 weeks. Side effects often go away, so hang in there if you can. Otherwise, talk to your doctor; you might be able to switch to another antidepressant."

Jenny 8675309 replied: "It all depends on the person, but if more than 3 weeks, I'd talk to the Doctor. I had taken it, and I felt extremely out of wack, except for my "Sex Drive"..............I think it has "Spanish Fly" in it, because that's all I wanted to do, and the only time I felt normal. I call it the "HORNEY PILL". My Doctor said that was not the first time she heard of this. Screw your brains out til Monday, then call the Doctor!!! ha"

What is the proper way to wean off of Wellbutrin XL 150mg? I was prescribed it for short-term use and the doctor told me to call his office for instructions when I decide I want to stop taking it. I will call his office when I get a chance, but I was just wondering if someone might be able to give me some information. Thanks.

vickersja replied: "cut it by 50 every 2 weeks. you should be good then."

jacko replied: "First, read section 2, on depression treatments, at. (.net.nz/~shaneris)"

Raul replied: "Physical/chemical withdrawal symptoms from Wellbutrin are not as severe as other anti-depressants, but there are still potential symptoms of increased impatience, reduced motivation, and of course depression. So the 'proper' way would simply be to reduce the amount every week or so, and gauge how you are feeling. But be careful: since Wellbutrin XL is SLOW RELEASE, DON'T BREAK UP the PILLS because it will mess that up. So you may have to get reduced amounts from your doc, or 25mg amounts so you can do it gradually. Again, coming of Wellbutrin usually isn't a major issue."

Has anyone who's taken wellbutrin or lexapro actually had a seizure? i recently started taking 10 mg of lexapro once a day and 150 mg of wellbutrin twice a day, plus valium as needed. i generally only take 1/2 a valium at a time.. usually only 1/2 a day.. if that. anyways... in the information from the pharmacy, it says that lexapro and wellbutrin can cause seizures and the valium says it can increase risk of seizures in patients who have seizures and that if you are taking antidepressants you might not be able to take it. i've taken the combo of lexapro and wellbutrin before and didn't have any problems, but i'm just wondering if anyone has really ever had a seizure from it? that kinda scares me! and if so, how do you tell if you are about to have a seizure?

huckypeep2 replied: "I take Lexapro and have not had a seizure."

Tami replied: "Why all the Meds? I'd be very careful, and get a second opinion from a Doctor (not a psychatrist), on why you are taking so many meds..."

Reality Check, Please! replied: "I have only had an anaphylactic seizure, so I don't know if its the same. My experience was sudden tunneling of my vision, dizziness, ringing in my ears, and then the world shifted sideways. It all happened within the span of probably less than 20 seconds. As for the drugs, if you've taken the combo before without incident, you're probably safe. However, you should definitely contact your doctor. Be aware however, that the pharmacy companies are required to print that stuff to avoid liability issues in the event that someone MIGHT have a seizure, whether or not its related to the drugs."

ROV replied: "As far as I know, seuzures start gradually. For example, if at nights, when you are laying in bed, your legs or arms start shaking for a second, it may be a sign of a nervous problem. There is always a risk factor when you combine two powerful medications. each person is different. The only way to detect a problem is taking note of any unusual changes and discuss them with your doctor."

fire 3 replied: "It has not happened to me. I use to take wellbutrin, but my doctor change. I take 10mg one in the morning and two at night. Lexapro works better for me that wellbutrin."

musicpanther67 replied: "I was on wellbutrin and it didn't give me seizures but it made me crazy. I was suicidal and even a little homicidal. I wouldn't take that stuff ever again."

KingGeorge replied: "Yes, I took Wellbutrin XL for a period of 6 weeks when I finally made up my mind to quit smoking. The Wellbutrin helped a great deal with the psychological associations and addictions while I was going through nicotine withdrawl. I also read the included pamphelet from front to back and became concerned about seizures. No, I never did have a seizure. Yes I was concerned about it a lot. I stopped the Wellbutrin as soon as I got to the 6 week point because I was doing better with the withdrawl and I did not want to be on a drug that seems to have some evidence of inducing seizures. If you are very concerned, I would strongly recommend talking with your doctor and try to find a different medication that will work for your needs. The seizures are a huge worry factor and might even lead to anxiety attacks."

blaze23 replied: "I haven't taken them together but I am on Lexapro and have never had a seizure. Valium is actually used to stop seizures and no where in the Physician's Desk Reference does it say it can not be used with antidepressants nor does it say it can CAUSE seizures. It is used to treat them. I don't think you should have a problem. Contact your pharmacist or MD and confirm with them. I'm sure they would have not given the medication if they thought there was as true risk of seizure. Some pts who have seizures experience a "aura" a sudden odd smell or bright lights."

* A.W * replied: "You are obviously concerned about this I would suggest talking to your pharmacist about it and if need be ask your doc (as they know your family history etc.). It may only be mentioned in the drug info because it could increase the amount of seizures you are having if you already have had seizures.... Just an idea. Don't hesitate to call a pharmacist if you are worried about it, it could really ease your mind. Good luck!"

mediahoney replied: "The use of Wellbutrin is discouraged for people who have had seizures or eating disorders. I took Wellbutrin for seasonal affective disorder. I had a mild seizure and promptly stopped taking the medication. My doctor prescribed something that is less likely to cause seizures, Zoloft."

bosse replied: "I've been taking Wellbutrin for several years now with no seizures. The more meds you take with that as a possiblity, the higher your chances are of having one. But there's a good chance you'll never have one, especially if it's never happened before. As for the warnings on drug labels, the companies have to put them on there if even one person has had that sideaffect. It's a liability issue. I've seen meds that have a possible sideaffect of death. It's a very good idea to read the info from the pharmacy. I always read it carefully when taking something for the first time. But I wouldn't worry too much about it, you don't want to get an ulcer from worrying, then you'd have another med to take.... :)"

mkandfa4rever replied: "i had taken lexapro before and it gave me no seizures"

Has anyone tried the Ensam patch for depression and if so, do you know if it works on dopamine like Wellbutrin I was taking Wellbutrin and had a very good respone to it when it was combined with Lexapro. I had to stop taking it due to severe itching. Just being on Lexapro alone, my brain feels like "mush" and my doctor mentioned giving the Ensam patch a try. Has anyone out there tried it and if so what were your experiences good or bad? and also for those who have tried it and also took Wellbutrin in the past, how does Ensam compare to Wellbutrin? I know Wellbutrin is a one-of-a-kind medication and works on dopamine. I don't know that much about Ensam and I am having trouble finding very much information over the net regarding people who have taken it and what side effects it has and if it helps with dysthymia type depression and low motivation. Thanks. The Ensam patch is also known as the segeline patch. Has anyone tried that or oral segeline and has it helped?

Tabatha replied: "I'm really sorry, I can't answer your query - but just wanted to say that I too have been trying to find out about the Ensam patch, and have had a lot of trouble. I'm in the UK and don't even know if we have it here yet. If you do find anything out, perhaps you'd be kind enough to let me know? And vice versa, of course. Cheers, and best of luck. Oh, and if you don't have any luck with it, have you tried Effexor? It works for many people who don't respond well to the SSRIs."

Kris replied: "Yes it does work on dopamine, but I can't believe it works as well as Wellbutrin XL which I am on. ""

Wellbutrin and Ibuprofen ? I am on wellbutrin and haven't been able to find any information on whether or not i can take ibuprofen for a splitting headache I am have. I am planning on contacting my doctor tomorrow, but does anyone know if this is going to be harmful if I do.

ubetcha replied: "It's fine. Go ahead and take your Ibu if you are not allergic. The two meds do not compete with each other."
