Can norfloxacin be used to treat chlamydia infection? Nofloxacin is an antibiotic.
MJ: You write it is effective, is it enough to get it to disappear tho?
Tnx for the answer btw
Michael Jacksons Glove replied: "in general, azithromycin is the typical antibiotic used to treat chlamydia.
however, norfloxacin and other fluoroquinolones (the family of medicines that norfloxacin belongs to) are effective against chlamydia."
Has anyone taken norfloxacin during pregnancy? i was prescribed it before i knew i was pregnant i would have been in the first week of pregnancy when i took it, its a category b3 antibiotic so the studies in humans are limited but there doesnt seem to be any increase in birth defects etc however tests in animals have shown increase in defects, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or another b3 antibiotic during pregnancy and what was the outcome?? also is it better or worse that it was taken within the first week of being pregnant?
christnp replied: "This is a good article summarizing various studies looking at pregnancy outcomes of women who took norfloxacin and related drugs during pregnancy.
Before you get alarmed reading about the pregnancy problems listed, keep on reading. In the end, there is no clear pattern of increased problems over the control group (women who didn't take the drugs). "In summary, the use of norfloxacin during human gestation does not appear to associated with an increased risk of major congenital malformations. Although a number of birth defects have occurred in the offspring of women who had taken this drug during pregnancy, the lack of a pattern among the anomalies is reassuring"
Of course, it's best to avoid it and the article states that, but you shouldn't be alarmed that there is a high chance of something terrible happening.
Hope this helps, and congrats on your pregnancy!"
Interactions between alcohol and norfloxacin? I've read many different viewpoints on mixing alcohol and antibiotics. Lets get something straight here, I'm not looking to get drunk - but it is my friends birthday, and I rarely get a day off of work, so I would like to have a glass of wine or two. Problem being the Pharmasist didn't insert one of those interaction sheets with this medication - anyone have any specifics on Norofloxacin?
Isreal's Wifey replied: "a fluoroquinolone C16H18FN3O3 used topically to treat conjunctivitis and orally to treat various bacterial infections (as of the urinary tract)"
Mr Muggles replied: "A little alcohol should not give you any problems.
people are normally told to avoid alcohol with the antibiotic metronidazole as it can give Nausea and vomiting. as it is similar to a drug used to treat alcoholism
see link for data sheet"
Dr Frank replied: "There is no interactions noted between Norfloxacin and alcohol. You can see the whole data sheet on:"
Ollie replied: "I have always been told not to drink has alcohol can stop the antibiotics from working."
I have bacteria found in my urine? I've been found staphylococcus aureus bacteria in my urine. The doctor prescribed me 7 days Bactrim and then 10 days Norfloxacin (only 1 pill per day). Isn't this too much antibiotics and time of treatment?
Sway replied: "no, staph is very serious"
ashbash429 replied: "I don't think that is too much because staph is VERY EXTREMELY SERIOUS. The doctor knows what he/she is doing so follow doctors' orders!
get well soon ;]"
So Cool Sunny replied: "No, you should use what the doctor's said because this infection, if properly treated, can be cured.
But if you delay it, it could get worse and develop into something more serious.
So, just to be on the safe side, let the doctor be the boss!"
vanshorkenstein replied: "everyone here is correct - listen to what your dr ordered
I'm a nurse and that coarse of treatment sounds right to me"
Antibiotics, drug induced Hepatitis, worries. Please ease my mind.(rebadged question)? I have finished my dose of Norfloxacin antibiotics(8days) for a bad urinary tract infection (and was on 10 days of Cephalaxin antibiotics 1 week before this with no side effects) and am wondering how long the Norfloxacin stays in your system for.
I had a Liver Function Test 2 and a bit days after finishing the course and the ALT came back high.(Only 4 points above the normal average high cut off but 20 points above my last ALT reading) I have experienced pale stools and pain in my abdomen though the former has stopped since finishing the course and the latter has eased. I am worried about Drug Induced Hepatitis. My doctor didn't seem to think there was much to worry about re; the "just" high result but being a bit of a worrier I'm concerned. Could the antibiotics have caused my symptoms without it being a Hepatitis?
abijann replied: "Doctors have to weigh the pros and cons of
the drug before they administer them to the
patient. Drugs are like a two edge sword...
they may help one condition the body has,
but in the process, hurt another part of the
body. Most drugs have many side effects....
if you ever looked up any drug you would be
surprised by them all. Any side effects from a drug should be reported to the doctor right away.
Many Antibiotics are hard on both the liver and
kidneys. To say how long a certain drug lasts
in a persons body depends on alot of factors,
such as how the organs are working, how old
you are, how fast your metabolism works,
how fast the drug will break down and where
the breakdown takes place. For instance,
In some people drugs that are an average dose
for most people, will be toxic to others if they
are sensitive to the drug.
Here is the warnings on the drug you took:#
It does mention possible hepatitis, which is
inflammation of the liver cells here, and possible
liver failure.
I would have the doctor do more blood testing
at intervals to see if these numbers are
coming down on your results. I also would
be definite to tell him that your stools are
pale...This is a sign that the bile may
not be flowing right to the intestines.
Liver problems usually start out as inflammation
of the liver cells, the doctor stopping or changing the medication and treating this inflammation ,early on, can help the cells of the liver heal.
You might want to be referred to a gastroenterologist who knows more about
the digestive system, if this problem doesn't
go away. You may be more prone to a problem
with the liver if you take any number of other
drugs later on... these include over the
counter and prescriptions medications...so
you need to know if this is the case, so they
can watch the drugs closely that they prescribe
for you.
Your liver enzymes tests are mildly higher than
normal...that is why there isn't much excitement
over it...however, the sign of the stools being
pale, means that you should be watched to
see if they stay this way. When you say pale
stools, if they are a whitish gray appearance,
then there is cause for concern.
Bilirubin is a substance that the liver converts
in the body into a soluble form to flow with
the bile out of the liver and into the intestines
to help in the digestion of fats we eat.
It is like a coloring agent. If the bile isn't
flowing well because of an infection, blockage,
or problem with malformation of the bile ducts...
it will stop the bile from getting to the intestines
and the stools will appear lighter in color; possibly grayish white..
However, when this happens the bilirubin will
increase in your blood instead. You might
want to check for a blood test to be done to
see if your bilirubin in the blood is going higher.
I hope this is of some help to you. You may
just be sensitive to this one drug and since
you are off of it now...you may not have any
future problems. I would suggest, though,
that your side effects from this drug be
documented, so they can use other drugs
instead of this in the future."
Antibiotics - Tygacil (Tigecycline) against severe acne? Recently a new broad spectrum antibiotic was introduced against MRSA Staph. Cocc. Aureus.
I require this drug for my son who has severe acne vulgaris with
pustules around his face.
We have done a great improvement with Pro Active but the deep
located furuncles remain.
I treated him with Norfloxacin but this is not the ideal drug for Staph soft tissue infections.
During adolescence young men frequently face this problem
due to hormonal changes.
But his case merits a treatment of full course antibiotics.
Where in the US can we obtain it. We are residing abroad
and can only obtain a foreign prescription.
Baby Girl 1214 replied: "NO.
We are too happy to use Antibiotics for everything now. So when we get really sick we are imuned to them and they dont help. Also you body imunity weakens the more you take antibiotics. So while the product may work to rid you of acne, is it really worth it? There are so many other choices out there."
Natural healer replied: "Try an internal Aloe supplement and another with silver for the infection. The aloe rids your body of toxins and the silver will kill any germ alive and decrease the infection inside his skin. I also had severe acne with those deep painful infections on my face but they have cleaned up with these 2 all natural mineral supplements. My problems were also due to hormones. I now just wash my face with plain hot water and take the supplements. I hated the side effects of what the antibiotics were doing (yeast infections -yuck). The supplements are inexpensive, easy to take and have no negative side effects.
email me for more info, Id love to help!"
Safe to take multiple antibiotics for recurrent urinary infections? I have just been diagnosed with my third urinary infection in the past 8 months. The doctor has prescribed 3 different antibiotics to be taken at the same time for a period of not less than 30 days. The 3 antibiotics I'm taking now are: Augmentin 875 (2x a day); Septra DS [160mg] (every 8 hours); Norfloxacin [400 mg] (2x a day). Is it safe to be taking all these differerent antibiotics together? This is the 5th day I have been on them and I still don't notice any improvement of my infection. Just feel exhausted and upset stomach all the time. Should I be seeing someone else? Any advise would be appreciated.
married with children replied: "Every time you take an antibiotic, your weakening your healthy cells. I would see another Doc. or at least insist on more tests. You should'nt be having that many and reacurring."
Gem replied: "I'm sure your doc will know what he is doing, but try and prevent UTI's by taking cranberry tablets twice a day and drinking plenty of water."
IplayadoconTV replied: "Is it 'safe' to take the antibiotics together, yes. It sounds like your doc is trying to be very aggressive in getting rid of your infection. I'm surprised that you haven't had an improvement. Lots of fluids and hopefully lots of cranberry juice or pills to acidify your urine. I can understand the upset stomach. Eat some yogurt, that will help your intestinal flora and your upset stomach. Other than that, if you can't shake the infection, thinks are going to get worse very fast. Make sure you get plenty of rest and drink, drink, drink!"
Taking Antibiotics..? i have recently had a urinary tract infection and went thru most of the pain without antibiotics. today i have come good, but my doctor has told me to take "norfloxacin" which are app quite strong, cause dizzyness and anxiety.
as i already am anxious about taking them, im not particulary interested in that increasing..
and.. my symptoms of urinary retract have decreased a lot..
do u think it is neccessary that i take them??
thanks
so even if my symptoms are going away i should still take it?
im just really worried about the side effects.. i get like this a lot with antibiotics..
meme replied: "yes, you shoud continue the course of this antibiotics as it is dangerous to have urinary tract infection should be treated completely, and after finishing the course of antibiotics you should do another urine culture
take care"
nikita replied: "in the modern medicine, there are hardly any drugs which haven't been reported to cause any side effects. even vitamines might cause side effects. the manufacturers of these drugs have to inform you, that it is possible that you get a side effect even if the probability is smaller than finding a million dollars on the street.
it's good that the symptoms are decreasing, but it's not enough to prove that you're cured. it is often like that, that bacteria continue to live in your organism, without causing any symptoms, until the next little cold when they get activated once again. it's important that you get them all out."
dcpb2k replied: "If the symptoms are stating to dissapear then why take the antibiotics, your doctor has obvisouly given them to you at the wrong time.
Any medication has side effects, but it is jsut a risk you have to take.
hope this helps and good luck!"
marie d replied: "You must always finish a course of antibiotics even if your symptoms have disappeared if you dont the next time u have this type of infection u will find it very dificult to treat with antibiotics as the infection will have developed antibodies to the prescribed drugs."
mdGreg C replied: "I Have Seen Something Similar In The Past, I Suspect All Quinolone Abxs Can Cause Increased Intracranial Pressure."
