how long does facial swelling from an allergic reaction to ibuprofen last? my doc told me to just take some benedryl and it'll go away but it's been 24 hrs and it hasn't
DrLove replied: "Take 25 mg of Benadryl every 8 hours and take a Claritin once a day until the swelling is gone."
Anyone else have an allergic reaction to ibuprofen? What were your symtoms?
dcrc93 replied: "it gives me pounding heart
my hubby gets a rash on his forhead"
Biljana P replied: "I am not allergic, but I get stomac aches from it. Better use diclophenac Kalium"
Robin B replied: "My husband gets the rash and welts"
KristaElizabeth replied: "I might be. I start to feel kind of funny."
Ibuprofen reaction? For the last three years I have had outbreaks of a red rash that eventually blisters on my both my lower legs. I have narrowed this down to either ibuprofen or chorine from swimming. Anyone out there have this reaction to ibuprofen or swimming?
onlymatch4u replied: "Ibuprofen stops the inflammatory processes in the body. This is one of the body's immune system responses. When you take this garbage, it allows problems to happen, even though it may make your pain go away.
There are many things that can cause the rash, but it is definitely your body telling you something is not right.
Mercury poisoning can do this. The lack of "B" vitamins can do this. Exhausted adrenal glands can allow this to happen. Also, yeast that is allowed to grow in your intestines can make this happen.
Chlorine from swimming can dry out your skin. Actually, it's not the chlorine that dries out your skin as much as the sodium hydroxide (lye) in the water as a byproduct of chlorine production. Ammonia from urine and body sweat also combines with the chlorine to form chloramines. This is a lacromatic gas that is what you smell when you are in public pool areas. The more ammonia in the water, the stronger the smell!
If you are eating a LOW FAT, High Carb diet, this will greatly contribute to the adrenal problem and can contribute to this problem. If you drink lots of coffee, tea, sodas, etc. your adrenal glands will be in trouble. If you are eating lots of vegetable oils like soybean, canola, cottonseed, or corn oils, you are getting lots of TRANS FATS from these. (eat lots of olive oil and garlic).
I would do the following if it were me:
Make sure you are getting enough water each day. I would drink distilled water. Take your total body weight and divide by 2. That number is the amount of ounces you need each day. If you drink coffee, tea, sodas, etc., add to that number by taking the ounces of those drinks and multiplying by 1.5 in water.
Go to: (not .com) and order:
Adrenal Complex --- Take 6 to 9 of those capsules b4 noon each day
Max Stress "B" --- Take 1/2 tsp. first and second day, then 1 tsp. each day and after a week, 2 tsps. per day.
Probiotic --- Take 2 in the a.m. and then 2 in the p.m. each day.
Liver detox --- Take 1 tsp. in juice or water each day.
Get at least 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night.
Avoid ALL the vegetable oils listed above, except olive oil.
You can stop taking the "B" vitamins after about a month if you continue to take the probiotics because the probiotics will make the "B" vitamins you need. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised at how this works for you.
good luck"
can you take a benadryl and an ibuprofen at the same time or will they cause some type of bad reaction? The benadryl (for my allergies) says not to use with any product containing diphenhydramine but the ibuprofen(for my period cramps) doesn't have diphenhydramine. is it okay to take both?
DaniFalalala replied: "yes it's fine, they don't affect each other in any way."
Nightmare replied: "advil pm is just that combo! no probs!"
puppy reaction to ibuprofen? my four month old shizu puppy just chewed up half a 200 mg ibuprofen... I heard somwhere that this could be dangerous, does anyne know if its true? also, how dangerous? are there any signs I should be looking for or is the implied risk with constant use over time?
Purple is so awesome replied: "Only your vet can tell you for sure."
Justine replied: "Call and ask your vet."
***ice queen*** replied: "you need to contact your vet ibuprofen can be fatal if eaten but your vet will run through things with you"
Rise Again replied: "POISONOUS!!!!
Make it vomit w/PEROXIDE!!!"
ainawgsd replied: "You need to call your vet or animal poison control NOW. A single dose of ibuprofen can be toxic to a dog if it is a large enough dose. The amount of damage done depends on how much was ingested and how big the dog was. Doses of over 175mg/kg (which your dog may or may not be small enough to have eaten) cause kidney damage. You can expect to see vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, lack of appetite, gastric ulcers, and/or abdominal pain (these are symptoms that are often seen at doses of over 50mg/kg, which your dog has certainly ingested). You should get your dog into the vet first thing this morning for supportive care (fluids and a coating agent for the stomach) at the very least."
Mia replied: "I came home one evening and found an empty vitamin bottle laying next to my 2 Rotties. I called animal poison control and they gave me the following instructions.
Feed them both a slice of bread, then give about 2-3 tablespoons of peroxide (make sure it still bubbles), wait a few minutes until they vomit. If nothing in 15 minutes, repeat....once they vomit, check for the pills. If your vet is open, call them for professional advice...."
Chihuahua Addict replied: "If I were you, I would get off the computer now and get your puppy to a vet! Ibuprofen or anything that has Ibuprofen in it, can cause Kidney Failure and much more damage and kill your puppy! Timing is very important, so please don't wait for answers here. The sooner you take your puppy to the vet, the better it's chances are for survival."
jaclyn replied: "It probably won't hurt him. Over time it will cause kidney failure, but not one pill. It is an overdose if he took that much though, so watch for bleeding just in case. You might just want to give him some peroxide to get it out of his system before it digests."
How long do adverse CNS reactions to ibuprofen last after the last dose? I've been having dizziness, ringing in the ears and visual 'shakiness' for about a week and a half - after taking the max ibuprofen dose for several days to combat the pain from a sinus infection. It's been at least 4 days since my last dose of advil, but I'm getting worried about the dizziness...
rnrayunretired replied: "The half life of ibuprofen is about 2 hours, so after 4 days you should not be experiencing these side effects. Since you said you have a sinus infection, it is very possible you also have a otitis media (middle ear infection) which can cause the dizziness and tinnitus (ear ringing) you are experiencing. The visual shakiness is called nystagmus and is common when large amounts of ibuprofen have been ingested. It should, however, be gone by now. Drink plenty of water and go see your MD if it doesn't clear up soon."
Can I take Tylenol or aspirin if I have had allergic reactions to ibuprofen before? I am experiencing facial swelling for the second time after taking Advil and I have a cold that is breaking my bones. I'd like to take something to alleviate the muscular pain but i am afraid I will make things worse. Called my doctor and he is unavailable...convenient! PLease help!
Doc8 replied: "Yes, they are completely different chemicals."
sheloves_dablues replied: "Tylenol contains acetaminophen, whereas Advil contains ibuprofen. If you had an allergic reation to ibuprofen, try acetaminophen instead."
Laura G replied: "unfortunately, Im in the same boat as you
I can only take tylenol....asprin, ibuprophen, advil, alleve
all give me hives.
I would recommend using tylenol-not asprin
there are cold medicines like tylenol cold that are awesome too!"
missbam replied: "take Tylenol it is aspirin free."
Steph replied: "Advil contains Ibuprophin. Tylenol has acetaminophene. Asprin and Tylenol should be ok. Just avoid the Advil."
Carolina replied: "To be safe, take tylenol (acetaminophen).
They are different chemicals, so your body will react differently to each (negatively or otherwise)."
Walking on Sunshine replied: "GENERIC NAME: ibuprofen
BRAND NAME: Advil, Children's Advil/Motrin, Medipren, Motrin, Nuprin, Pediacare Fever etc.
If you had a reaction to Ibuprofen you are allergic to all of these and should avoid them. Instead try aspirin, Aleve, Anaprox, or Naprelan - these are NSAIDs and will be better tolerated and less likely to cause reaction."
Is this an allergic reaction to Ibuprofen/Paracetamol?? A few weeks ago i started taking strong Ibuprofen for 2 weeks twice a day cos i had horrible abdominal pain which i found out was IBS. But i didn't stop taking it but when i did i got chest pains, upper back ache, sorethroat, upper middle abdominal pain that was really horrible, it felt like i has indigestion or Acid reflux so i got some Acid reflux medicine which i think helped cos it went a few days after. But i started taking Paracetamol a few days ago for strong headaches and it's all come back again :/ it feels like i have heart burn, i've got chest tingles and upper back pain, but it's on and off.
I'm only 18 and a bit worried.
Could i be allergic to it? Or is it just a cousinidence?
Whats causing the random pain just under my breast bone in the middle? i know it's all related cos i get pain from the top of my chest shooting down into that area sometimes.
Any ideas?
Thanks .x.
The chest tingles are in my left area, but like i said it's on and off and not severe just unconfortable.
kourtnie h replied: "not an allergy-but an ulceration.ibuprofen is a harsh painkiller that interferes with secretion of protective stomache enzymes.it cures headaches wonderfully, but then gives u a burning pain in the stomache/esphagus.its quite painful.all nsaids meds such as ibuprofen can cause ulceration/bleeding.not an allergy or coincedence,u have burned the lining of ur digestive tract with this drug.paracetamol(aka, tylenol)is not an nsaid, and is in general much milder and well tolerated by the g.i tract, but in this case,it will aggravate the damage thats already been done.try over the counter meds for acid reflux for 14 days.if very bad/doesnt respond, see ur dr.btw, ibuprofen wont control the pain of ibs,as u have discovered,it complicates matters!see a dr for further ibs med info.there are various meds a dr can give u to control ibs, ibuprofen isnt one of them.u need to see a gastroenterologist, both for the ibs and for the damage due to ibuprofen.if ur current dr didnt give u enough info/med options to deal with ibs, then u need to request another physician.incedentally,if u have strong headaches on a frequent basis,u should ask ur dr about the possibility u may have migraines as well-if so,the triptan migraine meds given for migraine, will not irritate ur stomache like ibuprofen will."
Please Help. My boyfriend has asthma and I'm afraid he's having an allergic Reaction to ibuprofen or aspirin!? He's vommiting and spitting up blood. His stomach hurts so bad its brought him to tears. He dosent have a fever if he gets one we're going to the hospital. We ate all the same things so ive ruled out food poisioning because im fine. Last night before we went to bed he took an excederin back and body (the reccomended two pills) he woke up early this morning and has been vommiting every since. Ive been pushing fluids to keep him hydrated but it comes right back up. what more can i do for him? and do you think it really is a bad reaction to the excederin?
He has no insurance we're poor so obviously we dont want to go to the hospital and hes not vommiting blood. hes spit pink
old_but_still_a_child replied: "If he's throwing up blood, go to the hospital anyway. It may be that he has damaged his throat from vomiting so much, but it could also be a stomach ulcer or another problem that needs medical attention. It is possible that if he take ibuprofen regularly it could damage his insides regardless of whether he is taking the right dosage, also. This has happened to someone I know, but is very rare. In short, if someone is in a lot of pain and there is blood in his vomit, hospital. Now.
EDIT: okay, so you're probably in America. Are there no free clinics you could visit? It's not worth risking his health."
Faye Dennis replied: "Not to be rude hon instead of looking on the internet take him to the hospital. Don't push anything in him if he's getting worse. Your forcing it and maybe making him worse.
Hope he feels better soon. I'd call 911 instead of taking him b/c you have to wait.
Even if you're poor you could still suffer the consequences. YA is not a medical website. But you could wait and let him get even worse. Its up to you.
Centra Care.... free clinics etc"
