Prozac? Sarafem? Weight gain? How much weight did you gain taking Prozac or Sarfem? Did it work for anxiety? Did anyone not gain weight?

I'm not sure if this is a direct result of the medication curbing my appetite, or if I'm just not "emotional eating" because I'm not as depressed or anxious, but either way, I've lost weight. I'm on the 20mg dosage."

Which of these is less likely to cause weight gain? Lexapro or Prozac (Sarafem)? I have the option of starting either of theseanti-depressant/anxiety medications. I don't want to gain any more weight and need to know if anyone knows which is less likely to make me gain weight? Thanks :o)

irish_3078 replied: "i'm really not sure. it's a crapshoot with most antidepressants. i gained 40 pounds on lexapro, but a friend of mine lost 50 on it. a lot of it depends on your body chemistry. good luck finding a medication that works for you."

rasta-girl replied: "I've been on Lexapro for about four months now for really, really bad PMS and I haven't gained a pound. It does make me sleepy so my doc told me to take it at night, before bed and I wake up feeling great. I've heard Prozac can make you gain weight and can make you 'crazy' if you stop taking it."

jodie replied: "Prozac put weight on everyone I know that TOOK it, usually between 20 and 40 pounds. Lexapro also has the side effect of causing weight gain. The two antidepressents that do not have significant weight gain are Effexlor and Cembalta. Wellbutrin also is good and has low weight gain. sandy m replied: "Hi Cindy B I have taken Lexipro and did not gain any weight from it. As a matter of fact, my appetite decreased while I was on it. Prozac made me not only worse but sick as a dog too. I know nothing of the other drug. If you want to know my opinion, take the Lexipro. I basically had no adverse effects from it, except the appetite but that was a good thing to me. I was piggin out from other meds that I was on at the time. Plus the lexipro worked, I feel much better now. HAHAHAHA"
