How long does seroquel withdrawal last after 6 years of taking it and then properly weaning off of it? I've been taking seroquel and other medications for about 6 years now and have been made horribly sick by them. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 15 due to a family history but I never had any symptoms other than mild depression. After being reevaluated, the doctors realized that they misdiagnosed me. I've been off of all of my other medicines for over a year but seroquel has been the worst to get rid of. My doses have been halved for about 2 months and each new does was taken for two weeks. I've been off of it for a week and I'm still having all kinds of withdrawal symptoms (jaw clenching, fever, body aches, interrupted sleep, muscle spasms, stomach trouble, itchiness...you name it.) How long does this usually last? I've been told that since I've been on it for so long the withdrawal might be more difficult. I wish the doctors would have investigated more instead of being so quick to put me on all of this medicine.

hopesclan replied: "It depends on the dosage. I was on 1200 mgs for 5 years and the withdrawal was hell. I did it in 6 weeks in a hospital--well I got down to 100 ml and the last but took about 2 months. It was much more difficult or maybe it was because I had to deal with life at the same time. What I can tell you is that it was worth it. I was no longer a walking zombie, the world seemed to come alive! I am sorry about your misdiagnosis. That was also my issue and it still pisses me off that I wasted so many years when I could have gotten proper help to get better."

How long does seroquel withdrawals last? I have been on seroquel for a year in a half. My doctor told me to slowly get off it so I have. It took me two weeks. THe first day I was fine. But for the past four days I have been so sick I cant get out of bed. I threw up the first two days and now I am getting hot sweats, nausau, and bad stumach pains, I cant sleep all night either. Im on other meds depakote, wellbutrin, and ambien. The ambien is supposed to help me sleep but it doesnt. How long is this going to last? I feel miserable.

Michael. replied: "Hopefully not long. Good luck with that."

are there withdrawals from seroquel if stopped abruptly? I have been experiencing anxiety since I stopped seroquel

Cydney replied: "Yes there are. I experienced withdrawals. I had anxiety, insomnia, and hallucinations. You should talk to your doctor about weaning you off. It's never good to quit cold-turkey."

Can you go through withdrawal from seroquel? I haven't taken it in a few days, and I've had the sweats, can't sleep and diarrhea. I've been taking 800mg a night for almost a year now, and I'm trying to come off of it because I've gained about 30 pounds and I'm not happy about that. But since I've stopped taking it I feel really bad. So can you actually go through withdrawal from this?

Ash C replied: "Yeah you can, when I stopped taking it suddenly because I ran out I alternated between freezing and sweating, and couldn't sleep at all, aswell as having the worst headaches of my life. You should go to your doctor so you can get advice on how to wean off it if that's what it advised."

Catherine M replied: "Seroquel This medication may cause withdrawal reactions, especially if it has been used regularly for a long time or in high doses. In such cases, withdrawal symptoms (such as trouble sleeping, nausea, diarrhea, irritability) may occur if you suddenly stop using this medication. To prevent withdrawal reactions, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details, and report any withdrawal reactions immediately."

sadiemae replied: "You sure can. I stopped cold turkey on Paxil Sept. 9th. I had such horrible withdrawal symptoms for about 3 weeks. My legs hurt soo bad, I had horrible headaches, terrifying nightmares, felt like there was sandpaper rubbing in my head, brain zaps, dhiarreah, sweats. I was taking 60mg. I should have tapered down, but I just wanted off. I'm better now. They don't call it PAXHELL for nothing. Good luck hun."

Is this a withdrawal side effect from Seroquel? Alright so I went cold turkey on 400mg. While i was sleeping I woke up suddenly from an extreme pain in my lower left leg. It felt as if I had just ran a marathon on that leg. So, would this be involuntary muscle movement (a withdrawal symptom) or could it possibly be something more serious?

Blether T replied: "Its probably withdrawal from seroquel. I stopped cold turkey too and i was on 900mg a day. I was in such pain for almost 2 weeks it took me to stop having pain. I couldn't sleep either, but in the end it was worth it. Good luck."

PsychDoc replied: "Seroquel (or Quetiapine) does not generally present with withdrawal symptoms. I would ask you to look for symptoms of increased temperature, agitation, palpitations and increasing muscle stiffness, all of which suggest a condition known as NMS or neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which requires urgent management. Otherwise these seem to be just muscle contractions which are part of the EPS (Extrapyramidal symptoms), for which your doctor can prescripe anticholinergics."

Cold turkey Withdrawal symptoms from seroquel? ? What are the withdrawal symptoms from seroquel,if you only took it for 5 or 6 days and skipped some days? Will choose best answer! How long will these withdrawal symptoms from seroquel last?

greeneyes replied: "Hi Olivia, If your GP etc. prescribed Seroquel for you, I would suggest that you go back to him/her. I have made the mistake of starting medication and not wanting to give it time to work then come off it immediately and it is not a good thing to do I know please let your GP or whoever prescribed it for you. I am giving you the name of the site than will give you more information, take care, I know what messing with scripts. can be like. "

Dr Know-It-All replied: "I've been on Seroquel for years, and if I miss a single dose I can't sleep. This happens when I run out and forget to get some more, and the chemist has closed for the day. I just lie on my back with a million thoughts racing through my head. It's not a withdrawal symptom per se, because I only started taking it when I started having trouble sleeping."

Seroquel withdrawal symptoms? Migraines? I've been on 75mg of Seroquel for almost 2 months. I take 25mg in the morning, and 50mg right before bed, to help with mild anxiety and problems sleeping due to depression. I ran out of my last prescription of Seroquel a few days ago, but when I tried to get it refilled, I was told it had expired. I've been having a hell of a time getting in touch with my psychiatrist since then, so I haven't taken any Seroquel in 2-3 days. I know it's not a good idea to go off any of these meds cold turkey, but I really don't have a choice at this point. I'm not trying to quit, just waiting for a new prescription. Anyway, I had been holding up okay without it, just a little more high-strung and anxious than I had been lately, but nothing that got in the way of my everyday life. However, last night I lost the peripheral vision in my left eye, followed by a migraine an hour later. I'm not prone to migraines. Could it be Seroquel withdrawal, or just stress? I just found out yesterday that my doctor had a family emergency and is out of town. His secretary has been trying to get in touch with him to call in prescriptions for all his patients, but I don't know if he has yet. I'm going to try to call again today. I agree that, in normal circumstances, I should probably try to find another doctor. But alas, I am a poor college student, and this is the on-campus (read:FREE) psychiatrist. I really can't go to anyone else. But thanks, if this was a normal situation with someone who had money, that'd be great advice.

Bob replied: "It is Seoul withdrawal. You need to call the doc again and even make a nuisance of yourself if necessary to get back on it. Your doc should be able to return your call on something like this right away. Be sure to tell the person on the phone what is happening. They might be able to get you in more quickly or at least to get the Rx called in right away. If you can't get the doc during the day, call in the evening and they'll be paged. This sometimes does better to get their attention. If you doctor or whomever is covering call for him/her can't be bothered to return your call within 24 hours, find another doctor immediately!"

Beautiful replied: "I can relate to you, I also take 50mgs of seroquel to help me sleep. Sounds like you are having definet withdrawls. When I try to skip a night without mine I get headaches as well. Hopefully you can get your prescription soon."

Seroquel Withdrawal? I've been taking 50mg of Seroquel for a year now (bipolar II), and I've been doing very well for a few months. My psych is having me come off of the stuff, so now I'm only taking 25mg. It's been a little over a week since I started only 25mg. I've felt like I've had more energy most of the time and I feel very moody. Today (day 8) I've felt rather depressed. I was just talking to my boyfriend and was very cheerful, and then suddenly I made a comment that was a little mean and apologized. After getting off the phone, I cried and cried. Also, my stomach has been bothering me a lot. Could these be symptoms of withdrawal (would I still be having withdrawal a week later, after only having come down 25mg?)? I'm afraid I'm showing bipolar symptoms again.

Alex62 replied: "I'm doing the same for the same illness, only coming down from 100mg. I'm now at 50mg. My differences are that I am more awake during the day (yeah!) and having a little more difficulty sleeping. No BP symptoms. Unfortunately, what you're describing sounds like BP symptoms, either because Seroquel at 50mg was keeping them in check (not sure that could be enough) or your other meds need to be adjusted. Sorry. Maybe just going back up on Seroquel will resolve it. Call your doctor."

yankidee_1 replied: "I would definitely bring this to the doctor's attention however having bipolar for many years you are probably already aware of the fact that these are classic symptoms of your disease good luck and God bless..If would help take a calendar and record your behavior and the dose of medication that your on at hat particular time"

Am I going through Seroquel withdrawal? PLEASE help me!? I'm bipolar, and up until 5 days ago I was on 300mg of Seroquel. I got switched to Geodon, but I can't figure out if I'm going through Seroquel withdrawal or if I'm just experiencing some bad Geodon side effects. My symptoms are - Excruciating headaches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The headaches and diarrhea I can deal with, but I'm somewhat afraid of throwing up so the nausea and vomiting is triggering panic attacks. I'd like to know that if I really am going through withdrawal, how long does it last and is there anything I can do to make that time go by faster? Thanks everyone. I plan to see my doctor in a few days (she's only available on Tuesdays and Fridays, so I have to wait). Until then, I guess I'll just have to live off of saltines and ginger ale!

sandoz replied: "that sounds horrible. i was on seroquel because i was halucinating and when i went off of it i was experiencing migranes, sweating, nausea, and i was really jittery. ive gone on and off a lot of pills and thats what usually happens with me, as well as your symptoms. im pretty sure its a combination of both. it should take up to 2 weeks for it to go away; thats how long it usually takes me at least. but if it lasts longer that probably means youre having a bad reaction to Geodon. id see a doctor anyways though, before you take medication for your symptoms, just in case they react to the geodon and seroquel. medication even when you go off of it usually stays in your blood system for 2 weeks to 4 weeks. im sorry youre goin through that. it sucks really bad :( hope you feel better. -allye"

Chris H replied: "Please call your doctor. I use to take Seroquel and I don't know if you can switch to Geodon right away. Let you doctor know what is happening. Only your doctor can help you with stopping the symptoms."

How long does Seroquel withdrawal last? I am bipolar. I've been on Seroquel for about 1 1/2 years. At the highest dosage I was taking 1400 mg a night to sleep. I've been weening myself off it along with my doctors help. I've gone from 1400 mg a night to 100 mg. I am ready to be off of this medicine. I've gained 50lbs on it, and it doesn't matter whether I'm taking 1400mg or 100mg i am still gaining weight and feel drunk when trying to wake up. When I try to stop taking it I have terrible insomnia. My shoulder muscles ball up and throb very painfully so much that I can't think straight. My head hurts, I can't concentrate and I'm tired of it. I want it to stop. How long will it take for these withdrawal symptoms to stop?

Amin K replied: "Your doctor would be the one whom you should ask regarding the length of time it will take to fully withdrawal from Seroquel. Everyone's system is different from one another and the only one who knows how you are reacting to the withdrawal is the doctor who is helping you to get off of it as you have been doing. If you are having trouble sleeping when attempting to totally remove it from your drug regimen tell your doctor and he or she can possibly let you know of something that will help you to sleep while just getting off the Seroquel."
