How long does Seroquel stay in your system after stopping use? I was on Seroquel for about 7 days to treat my Borderline Personality Disorder. I woke up everyday depressed and suicidal, and it got worse as the days went on. I stopped taking it, and today I feel a lot better. I've only been off of it for one day now. I want to know when it will be completely out of my system. Is it still affecting me at all? I was on it for such a short period of time, I am unsure.

Purple People Eater replied: "in about 2 days :) omg i know how you feel, I was on this drug for bipolar for 6 weeks, eek! all it did was stop me being happy, and it made me more depressed. I just stopped taking it and i felt a lot better. Good Luck :)x"

Simon W replied: "Seroquel has a short half life and will be completely out of your system in a couple days. When I was on Olanzapine it made me very depressed and I tried to commit suicide."

Low Sex Drive After stopping Seroquel? I stopped taking seroquel 3 weeks ago since then my sex drive has went to hell and I cannot orgasm..is this normal? I NEVER had this problem before

Jen B replied: "The first thing you need to do is figure out why your sex drive is low and try to help get it back. I was in your situation and it's not fun without being horny and feeling in the mood when needed. I also felt like my orgasms (if I would even get one) were really weak. Probably because of my sex drive. However, I tried exercising and dieting but nothing seemed to be working. I thought I was screwed. I then found something just as amazing as the vibrator. My friend at work told me about this stuff she took to raise her sex drive. It was a natural herbal supplement and was I lucky to of found it. Theres no side effects and the sex drive is just tremendous along with orgasms that are blasting. The stuff is called Hersolution pills. At the time I saved money on them at herenhancement.com What I did was tried out for 3 months and that was really it. I found taking them every other day or so was the best to stretch it out. After the months were up, I was back to normal with a beating sex drive and my orgasm strength in increased so much. Well good luck and I hope this helps."

digger replied: "no not at all. I took 200mg for 6 months and stopped cold without any affect,I just did not get to sleep as easy for the first day or two,so I took some over the counter sleep aid and everything was fine.I don't know about the other stuff your on ask your doc about that. I take lexapro, and it has worked great. good luck"

Em replied: "My brother died about 3 months ago at 19 and he was bipolar and taking Seroquel. This isn't going to answer your question but I want to stress to you the importance of taking your medication. It can take years to find the right combination of medicine that will work the most effectively to treat your bipolarism; it's important that you do not get discouraged or give up because you feel you will never get "better" or feel "normal" again. You WILL feel better it just takes time on those antipsychotic medications. Suicide if often an end to people with Bipolar Disorder..just please take into consideration what I am saying?"

Artist Wanna Be replied: "yes... Seroquel and maybe it could have been Abilify that caused terrible problems for someone I knew..... I don't know her dosage.... but once the dosages were adjusted or she was taken off of them she became much much better I was on Seroquel 600 mg. the only trouble I had with it was some involuntary mouth movements that I wasn't even aware of.... talk to you doc...."

jamgerky replied: "after stopping seroquel you will not feel good at all for a few days..then you go back to how you were before you started...this is a good drug for bipolar 1..I've got the same thing it helps me alot....but I'm also manic....you will feel bad 1st week....sleeping problems, upset tummy,anxiety.,...you really should keep taking it,,unless your doctor says diff...anyways GOOD LUCK MAN TAKE CARE..."

playfuldaddycat4misslovekitten replied: "I took one seroquel And my blood sugars were elevated , So i went off of it ."

Avie replied: "I was on seroquel for seven years and all the side effects went away after I'd been off of it for a week. I've known several other people that have taken it as well and all of their side effects ceased after discontinuing use. Keep in mind, though, that everyone reacts to medicine differently. For instance, I never experienced the hand shaking while I was on seroquel, but my father did. After they took him off of it, his hands quit shaking."

it's_just_me replied: "My fiance was on Seroquel....He was only extremely sleepy from it....but definitely side effects of these kind of medications are individual. However, it is very possible for them to cause shaking...but were ur hands shaking before? If so maybe Seroquel can only make it a worse....but eventually stop. BUT these meds are very heavy....and as no doctor can look inside of ur brain and discover which one would work better and make u have no side effects at all....as some of them can be pretty serious! And yes, they can stay after u stop the med! It is important that about ANY movement problems u tell to ur doc, because most likely he will change ur medication or dose. Most of these kind of medications can make u have Dystonia, Essential Tremors, Parkinson's disease etc.....but there are really rare cases....still it happens, so u need to keep ur doc very much informed on any changes so he can react on time. Just to add....do NOT stop it on ur own, as it needs to be graduatly...just contact ur doc and he will know what to do :) Hope this helps! If you need somebody to talk to feel free to send me email;"

Andy replied: "It's possible that the effect may or may not go away after stopping the medication, but best bet would be to work with the doctor on getting off of this medication and trying a different medication."

Seroquel: Weight loss after stopping medication? I have been taking seroquel for four or five years and now, due to high blood sugar, I have been told to stop taking it. I was taking 50 mg per day, and probably gained about 25 pounds overall. I am 51, female. Will this weight come off with exercise and portion control? If so, how long would that take?

deathbymonkeys69 replied: "Seroquel is one of those meds that makes a person gain alot of weight when on the med. You will notice the weight loss after stopping these meds relatively quickly. Usually within the first 2 weeks you will notice a big difference, even at 51."

peachestommyleasia replied: "PHENTERMINE 37.5 MG. this is not a attempt to sell anything. I'm an average mother of two that gained a lot of weight with my two babies. i tried everything that i could think of. my next step after this was two get weight loss surgery. a friend told me about a weight loss clinic that prescribes this pill. i tried it and in the first two weeks, i loss 19 pounds. and about 4 pounds a week for the next mouth. i love it try it. you will not regret it. the only side effect that i had was dry mouth. i would rather have dry mouth than a big belly. a little gum can take care of the dry mouth. try it you can get it off the Internet also. let me know what u thing. email me and i will give u more info."

Animal Freak replied: "When my son was in his early teens his psychiatrist put him on Seroquel for his Bi-Polor disorder & he started gaining weight. He also had ADHD & was very thin until then. I think he was on it for about a year. I don't know if it was the Seroquel or his growth spurts but he never lost the weight. He does live a pretty lazy life so i'm not sure. I would ask your Dr. what you can do to lose the weight. Also you have to take into effect that as woman get older there metablolism naturally gets slower so they tend to gain weight even without any diet or exercise changes. So you may have to step up your excersise program or cut some calories. Good Luck"

former seroquel user replied: "first i would contact an attny due to the high blood sugars which the maker lied about. i have been unable to lose the 35 pounds seroquel put on me. let's just say it's not water weight. good luck. more info on seroquel and zyprexa at furiousseasons.com"

Is it bad if i stopped taking Seroquel without informing my doctor? Why is it always mentioned to never stop taking an antidepressant unless consulting your doctor? Is that because it affects the way chemicals are balanced your brain? Seroquel is truly an antypsychotic medication. I stopped taking it last week because it was just making me too freaking tired and it would not go away. I had work to go to. I was at 200 mg. Too much, I know.

Nikki replied: "You basically answered your own ? You need to check with the doctor and have him or her lower your dosage. The reasons that you shouldn't stop meds without consulting your doctor is because some medications have bad side effects if stopped without being weaned off of it. You really should go see the doc. Good luck."

jfl replied: "You may be just asking for trouble! Seroquel is a very powerful drug and is prescribed for a number of conditions. Your treating doctor needs to be in charge of your meds. You don't tell us why you are on it. Also, are you taking other Rx's? Drugs are sometimes prescribed to take together for a desired result. What you are doing could be serious. You cannot just stop taking Seroquel and need to be weaned off of over a period of a week to ten days. If you find you are not feeling well make certain you go to the nearest emergency room."

Scott P replied: "Yes, it is a bad idea. Seroquel is for bipolar and depression. See your Dr. immediately!!! Tell them the problems you are having and perhaps they can get a different med. I hope you are seeing a psychiatrist not a general practice Dr. If your case is advanced so you can't work you may be qualified for a disability payment. But please, please, call your Doctor. NOW!!!"

Stacey replied: "I am on 200 mg of seroquel too. I used to take one pill in the am and the other at night time. The one in the morning used to make me super tired too. I started taking it later in the afternoon and it's alot better. It's a very bad idea to stop taking it without letting your doctor know first."

whats up with the crazy side effects when i try to stop taking seroquel? I have massive headaches, nausea, blurred vision, stuttering, cold sweats, and insomnia when i try to wean my self off seroquel. I also have no patients and a terrible temper. I get so sick if I go longer than 24 hours without taking it, that I take it again just to make the side effects stop. With in 30 minutes to an hour after I take it again, I'm fine. This is my 4th attempt to stop taking it, what can I do to help?

donnie replied: "you need to talk to doctor. he or she will tell you how to tapper off you'er medication. if thats what you want to do"

krista replied: "Seroquel is a mood stabilizer which is a controlled substance. Therefore, you're getting some withdrawal symptoms. Do not stop taking it cold-turkey - wean yourself down slowly. Decrease your milligrams over maybe a two week period until you're off of it and you should be fine. Your symptoms will be much less noticeable that way."

Has anyone just stopped taking seroquel and how did you feel? My doctor changed me to abilify yesterday and told me to stop taking seroquel, I feel terrible, I couldn't sleep and I feel agitated.

JustAsking replied: "I don't know...."

Beth replied: "I just stopped at one point in my life, and I went through withdrawl, I didn't want to be on it, i gained alot of weight. So, hang in there"

Mixolydian replied: "I experienced some minor problems with insomnia and physical illness. I talked to my doctor and she told me to taper off of it slowly and I got better eventually."

torontoguy1097 replied: "seroquel although a new anti psychotic, made me feel like a zombie. I have been through so many diagnosis's over the past several months and low and behold I am no longer bi-polar 2! Coming off it was a relief, I do however miss the sleep. While hospitalized they forgot to give it to me for a week and strangely enough the effects were minor. Ask your doctor for a sleep med if only for a short term to get yourself back on track. The new ones are great but expensive and better yet non addictive... but then again they said effexor wasn't either. Get some sleep meds."

Stopping klonopin, seroquel Cold Turkey? After being on this medications for over 2 years I cannot simply afford them. I have health insurance through my school and they only allow us to receive $2,500 in medication for the whole year, while I pay a copay of 10 for generics (Klonopin) and 20 for brand name(Seroquel). My Rx money has gone form 2,500 to 700 in two refills and this is just the start of the school year. I simply cant afford to pay out of pocket. Also, since switching to my school medical insurance they got me an appointment with a psychiatrist in TWO moths, which i missed (my fault) now i have to wait another two months to be able to see a psychiatrist. Also I have insomnia tried everything nothing worked. I take Klonopin 1mg 4x a day which I don't do because i save them up and take from 8-12mg at night to get a full nights sleep. I have been doing this for about 4-6 months. I have become so depended and addicted to this drug that I feel electricity flowing through my body when I ran out of them, it feels like im having strange chills, and sleepless nights. I also think its affecting my memory I have been forgetting things, including the appointment and short term memory things like where did i leave my self phone or i find myself forgetting what i was going to do seconds After i had the thought. Is it safe to stop cold turkey seeing I cannot afford them anymore?

Vena Cava replied: "Im not sure if your doctor told you this but klonopin is a benzodiazepine. Its a pretty addictive drug. It makes you sleepy and relaxed but once you get off of it cold turkey, you have insomia. Seroquel is also a powerful drug. Most people who I have seen are on it forever. I would recommend slowly weaning off of the klonopin. Do not stop cold turkey."

Mathieu replied: "I am sorry to say but stopping cold turkey is not an option for Klonopin. It is best to stop Seroquel over time but it does not need to be too long. Seroquel does not cause substance abuse, dependence, or addiction. If you have bipolar, schizophrenia, or any psychosis you must not stop without talking with a doctor. The Klonopin is the real problem. Klonopin is a high potency benzodiazepine. Klonopin typically causes physical dependence if taken continuously over time. The chills, electric feeling, insomnia, and memory problems are due to Klonopin. You are clearly physically dependent (which is not addiction) which is why you have problems when you run out. You can't stop cold turkey because your problems will get worse, you will likely have severe anxiety, insomnia, agitation, tremor, and depression. You could also have very severe problems, hallucinations, anger, rage, self harm, seizure, delirium tremens, coma, and death. Cold turkey or any overly rapid withdrawal can kill, it can cause you extreme distress, and you most likely will not be able to attend school. Benzodiazepine withdrawal is classified as a medical emergency and it can require hospitalization. Benzodiazepines can produce withdrawal as severe (if not worse) than heroin. Not everyone had massive problems but you already have had some withdrawal and 8-12 mg is very dangerous. The reason for your memory loss is due to the amnesia high doses of benzodiazepines can cause, similar to how alcohol can. I certainly don't know if you are addicted (remember, not the same as dependency) but the fact you increased the dose without doctors approval is a problem. Klonopin is also dirt cheap. Paying full price should be under $20.00 and normally less. If you had to pick between Seroquel and Klonopin pick Klonopin. And with the 30$ you spend for your copays you can buy Klonopin in full. To be really honest you need to see a general practitioner if you can not see a psychiatrist for a while. And even tiny changes in dose or timing can cause serious problems."

How to lose weight afer Quetiapine (Seroquel)? I stopped Seroquel two weeks ago. I took it for nearly four months, and have put on about 4 stone (50lbs approx). Will the weight drop off now I have stopped? Or does it just stay? And is there a medicine that can help alleviate this... it has affected my mobility.?

Irene K replied: "i don't think it will go down by its own. you gained weight not because of the meds, the meds only made you want to eat more, they don't make you gain weight. if you eat more, you gain weight. i have been on seroquel and i know what is like. try to eat healthy and exercise if possible. avoid junk food and eat much fruit and vegetables. you don't have to go on an extreme diet to lose weight. i don't know if there is a pill. its better to lose weight by eating healthy."

lordmeerkat replied: "This is something you need talk about to the doctor who prescribed you the seroquel. It will depend on why you've put the weight on, whether you're hungrier and eating more, whether you're emotionally eating, or whether there has been a physiological change to your body chemistry which is causing you to gain weight. The best thing you can do, as in any weight-gain situations, is to eat properly and exercise more. Don't just cut out food, but make sure you're getting sufficient vitamins and minerals, especially B vitamins. Ensure you're getting some exercise every day. I know a couple of people on seroquel, and their weight has not changed significantly since they began taking it. Make sure it's not another medication too - antidepressants often cause increased appetite and reduced metabolism."

JACKIE replied: "it is much harder to loose weight after you gain it, even if the medication has caused the weight gain. Ive been looking for medicines to aid me in weight loss and i havnt found one that is sucessful with no horrible side effects. unfortunitly good ol diet and exorcise is the only thing that can help. eating more fiber and protien and less fat and carbs. the way the medicines have you gain weight is it throws your hormones and chemicals in your body and brain off so you actually gain the weight by eating more so its not the medicine alone that makes you gain weight, it makes you change your lifestyle which puts on the weight so the only thing you can do to get it off is change your habits and lifestyles. make small goals and reward yourself. good luck, ive been tryign to get rid of a significant amount of weight for a long time now and it is very difficult but i have faith that you can do it! good luck"
