how long till zofran side effects go away? I have tardive dyskinesea from reglan, the E.R. put me on zofran to stop my nausea but now the anxeity and dyskinesea are worse. How long will these side effects last?

Theresa N replied: "One day or two."

zofran side effects...? well after 12 weeks of morning/noon and evening sickness my midwife put me on zofran. my insurance BARELY approved them today, im a little worried about taking them...i know they'll help me out a lot and i can finally enjoy a great meal for once in what seems to me, a long time. But my question is to users and former users out there is, Are there any side effects and if so what are they and how soon after taking it does it lessen or disappear? well my friends...constipation has been a merry side effect of this pregnancy since the very beginning don't think its something i won't be able to handle.

MishMash replied: "The only side effect that I experienced was constipation."

Mama Bear [expecting #3] replied: "Constipation, just increase your fiber intake."

Has anyone had to take Zofran for morning sickness for their entire pregnancy? Currently I'm 17-1/2 weeks. I have been taking the Zofran that I was prescribed since about 10 weeks - my morning sickness was so severe I couldn't keep liquids down. I've had to take it once a day since then, right when I get up, and I have found that if I do not take it I get really sick. My last attempt to stop taking it was Friday, and I threw up for three hours, until I was finally able to get a dose in me and have it stay down. I know my doctor would never have prescribed the drug - or the amount of it she's allowed me, which is 40 pills a month - unless she felt it was to my and my baby's benefit, but I'm concerned I'm going to have to rely on it until I give birth. I'm happy with the results, as it keeps me from getting sick and hasn't produced any side effects, and I've been able to gain back some of the 15lbs. I lost in the first trimester. Has anyone had to take Zofran their entire pregnancy, and what was the outcome?

theosharatos replied: "I'm not sure of that brand prescription but my last pregnancy I had to take phenegran because I was just as sick as you are. I took them for about 6 months and as I can see it did not affect the baby. Now with this pregnancy, which is my 4th, I was just as sick as before. I didn't want to take the med this time so I just dealt with the sickness and i finally got over it after 6 months. Now in my last trimester, I just stopped getting sick one day. Do a search on line. I'm sure you will find plenty of stuff to read that people have to say about your med. Jennifer"

Chanda replied: "I too took Zofran not he entire pregnancy but most of it. You may find down the road that you wont need it. After I think about the 6-7 month I would have periodic sickness so I would take on those moments. DOnt worry you dr wouldnt have given it to you like you said if it was unsafe. Good luck I feel for you on the sickness I lost 12 lbs also."

Samantha N replied: "yes, I've taken it with 2 of my pregnancies and the outcome was a healthy happy baby! (and me not wasting away or passing out from complete dehydration) It's fine, you have to get some relief and be able to survive the pregnancy!"

Has Anyone Taken Zofran For Morning Sickness? My Doctor prescribed me Zofran for morning sickness and I've done research online that states that there are no proven risk's for pregnant women to take this drug. When I had it filled I was given the generic for it called Ondansetron has anyone else taken this or Zofran and were there any side effects? Was it effective with your Morning Sickness?

mikeys mommy replied: "The generic is fine. Same drug category as zofran. And yes it helped with my morning sickness."

Braiden* Due 5/25 * replied: "it made me really sleepy, so i took it with a glass of milk and toast b4 i went to bed and my morning sickness wasnt that bad. but its not a magic pill, i still had some bad mornings/days"

rachel o replied: "Yes I'm 21 wks and I take Ondansetron (generic for Zofran) It has honestly helped me so much! I have been on it for about 2 months after I dropped 25 pounds from constantly throwing up. I still get sick sometimes especially if i don't take it at the same time everyday. I've stopped it a couple times to see if I could go without it but then i start getting really sick again and end up with dehydration. So I'm still taking it every 4-6 hours. The side effects I've experianced have been headaches and constipation, but definatly worth taking if you are really sick. Good luck"

Shelley M replied: "I took it with my first pregnancy and then with this one. It helped me to take a mixture of medicine. I took the generic of zofran and a phenigrin suppository. If I didn't take the suppository I wasn't able to keep the zofran down. I threw up with my first around 4-12 times a day from 7-12 weeks and with this one I threw up 0-17 times a day from 7-19 weeks. I even passed out a few times with this one because of throwing up so much. I haven't had any side affects from the medicine and my first baby was a healthy happy 8 ib girl apgar 10! Sometimes the medicine works really well and other times it didn't help that much. I was definitly worse off if I didn't take it though. I tried a few times to not take it and that was when I threw up the most. I am currently feeling better and not taking the medicine!!!"

stephanie s replied: "i took it but it said to take one every 8 hrs. i think. something like that and mine seemed to wear off about 2-3 hrs later."

Kelly replied: "I was finally prescribed zofran after trying other methods and drugs to combat morning sickness. I had lost about 15 pounds from it until I finally got zofran and what a lifesaver! I don't remember any side effects from it at all. I hope it works for you!"

Does anyone use Zofran for Nausea during pregnancy? Do most doctors prescribe it easily? What have your side effects been?

froggy replied: "I have and it works!! The dr gave it because I am allergic to the other drugs. It is expensive though. But worth it. Insurance wil only pay for 10 a month. That's not even one a day!! Weird. No side effects for me."

Kim B replied: "well i was given zofran for severe morning sickness told to take 1 4mg tablet every 4 hours, well insurance only pays for 24 in a 25 day period, and after that the bottle of 24 is 700 bucks! well I ended up not doing well on it anyway still losing weight so they put me on a zofran pump, stick yourself in the leg every day and get the meds like an iv all day no break i do get a little dizzy and a small headache from it"

MishMash replied: "I did and it was a life saver. I had terrible nausea for 10 weeks with my daughter. At first they wanted to give me suppositories because they didn't think I would be able to keep the Zofran pill down, but they did not work at all. The Zofran did. Constipation is a side effect, but I was told I could take a Colace every day. It is expensive, that is why I used the generic, which worked great."

Sweet Pea <3 replied: "YES YES YES! I wouldve been lost without it! Used it for about 4 months. I had my first appt and i told him how sick i was, and at my next one (4wks later) i told him it had not gotten any better infact worse, and he prescribed that."

Anyone been put on Zofran for nausea/vomiting in pregnancy? I am 15 weeks and was prescribed Zofran yesterday. Since I've been taking it, my stomach and lower back kind of cramp, like I'm about to start my period or something and I didn't know if that was normal for the meds or maybe just coincidentally my back/stomach started hurting when I took the meds. Did you have to stay on the medicine for the rest of the pregnancy? Any other side effects?

gumby replied: "I have been on zofran in all 3 of my pregnancies and I never cramped. I would think that's a coincidence, but I would still talk to your doctor about it. If you're like me, you're so nauseous that you haven't been hungry. Maybe the zofran is abating the nausea enough that those cramps are really hunger pains. It took me a long time in all of my pregnancies to realize that I was hungry. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. Good luck."

batmantis1999 replied: "My sister-in-law was put on this when she was pregnant. She had a little back pain, but that was about it. If you're cramping, even a little, call your doctor. Better to be safe than sorry."

S. O. replied: "I didn't take zofran, I took compezine, so I don't know about your cramping. I just wanted to say I took the compezine for about 3 months and then when my prescription ran out I decided to try going without for a week before refilling it. I never had to go back on it. I didn't start taking it until I was about 2 or 3 months pregnant and stopped around 6 months. You might be able to go without it or you might have to stay on it for the whole pregnancy, every pregnancy is different and there's no telling what your hormones will do to you in the coming months."

bakken girl replied: "they put me on it but it made me even more sick than before, so i went off of it. talk to your doc!"

Momof 1and1ontheway replied: "I was on diclectin and it didint work for me. usually those types of pills are a combination of antihistamines and B vitamins. You cramps could be round ligament pains. I've had them since 6 weeks and i am now 20 weeks."

baby momma Drama replied: "Yes i was on it but I had no side effects sorry I'm of no help! Maybe try figuring out if something is targeting it. For example I craved cereal and I would have 2-3 bowls and the next day I wouldn't be able 2 hold down even Popsicles. I was in and out the hospital for dehydration from week 9-20 till I in pointed it was the milk that was causing it and turns out my son is allergic to milk (not lactose their both different)"

how long does it take for zofran to work? I am about 10 weeks pregnant. I have lost about 10 pounds so far because I haven't been able to keep food down. My dr. gave me a RX for Zofran. I just paid about 300.00 for 8 pills so I hope they work. I just took one. How long does it take to take effect? Thanks

practicalwizard replied: "oh, man. i'm guessing your insurance didn't cover that. you know, you can file a pre-authorization with your insurance company. your doc will have to fill out some paperwork to see if they will cover that for you... that's what i did. anyway, it takes about 15 minutes to work and is supposed to last about 8 hours. that's what they also give to chemo patients to combat their nausea. it works with the brain to shut off its signal that you are feeling sick, not with your stomach or anything so, yes, it works. i sometimes feel like they wear off sooner, though, and you can't take another one for 8 hours. anyway, good luck, and i'd definitely look into that with your insurance. and that's generic, i know. my insurance covers 30 pills at a $60 co-pay and i had to have that authorized."

pregnacny sickness and zofran? I was just put on zofran because I have been so sick with my 3rd pregnancy. Can anyone tell me their expierences being on zofran while pregnant. Did it have any side effects? And did it work for you? Thanks!

Jess-me replied: "I was also on Zofran. It is the best. It works fast, doesn't taste bad, and will really help. I had no side effects with it. Good luck!!!"

bb replied: "I've been taking Zofran almost daily for 5 weeks. I have been so nauseous. I am still nauseous on Zofran, but it does help. Also it seems to wear off quickly. I find Phenergan to be better at reducing nausea, but it makes me SO tired so I take Zofran during the day. It's very easy to take, and the only side effect I've noticed is constipation. I had to get a stool softener, and I try to walk every day and drink lots of water. I can't wait for the nausea to go away so I can stop the Zofran. Constipation is terrible, and I've never had that problem! Good luck."

Christy E replied: "I agree with the previous poster in that while I did not find Zofran nearly as effective as Phenergan, I liked that it did not cause any side effects, especially the incredibly drowsiness like the Phenergan. Zofran took the edge of the nausea so that I was able to function. Best of luck to you!"

is anybody know medication AMITIZA what is it for, and possible side effects ? maybe ther is a diferent name for it like ZOFRAN ?

Greeneyed replied: "Amitiza is for constipation google it on your computer. zofran is for (cancer)chemotherapy patients so they don't get sick after chemo"

13 week pregnant and prescribed Zofran?Anyone ? Prescribed Zofran for vomiting. Asked to take 1 every 8hrs for the next month? Wondering if there are any side effects? Any dependency? Is IV fluids a better option than popping 3 pills everyday? Thanks. thank you everyone.

Oh Baby replied: "My wife took it during her first pregnancy. No negative effects, no dependency. They had tried a few others, if you feel uncomfortable with it, you might ask for phenergan suppositories, that was the only other thing that even slightly helped her."

Sophie C replied: "No dependency but I found it made me super sleepy, like taking a sleep aid. No I am not a fan of the IV's because I have two kids and did not have time to be in the hospital every day ( I was that sick, still sick, better now in my 5th month). I do not recall any adverse side affects, except a mild case of loose bowels. I stopped taking it because I just could not be sleepy all day."

~MayBaby2009~ replied: "I took it and it was a life savor for those days! I took it every 6 hours.....I only took it when I felt sick though as soon as I started to feel better I stopped....but no side effect, I took them from 7 weeks to 10 weeks. My friend just had her baby and she took it through out her whole pregnancy she was one of those girls uhhh huh? anyways the doctors wouldn't give them to you if they weren't safe! Good luck and congrats!"

Baby # 2 on board! replied: "I took Zofran from week 8 to week 12. The dosage I was prescribed was 2 a day, so 1 every 12 hours basically. I only needed to take 1 a day b/c I found that it lasted all day, so I didn't need to take 2 a day. There was no dependency, I got a headache every few days as a side effect, but that was much better than the 24/7 nausea I was suffering from. If I were you, I would start by taking 1, and see how long it lasts before you take 2 more. I stayed hydrated all day and was still very nauseated, so if you are very sick, Zofran is a simple fix vs. IV fluids. My nausea went away totally at 13 weeks, you may also want to see if your nausea and vomiting subsides over the next week or so. Good luck."
