I recently switched from Zoloft 100 mg to Cymblata 60 mg. I feel constantly thirsty. Anyone else had that? I would drink maybe 2-3 waters a day and 1 coffee and maybe 2 sodas. I now am drinking 2-3 sodas, 2 coffees and like 4-6 waters or more.

Cher H replied: "Side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include nausea, dry mouth, constipation, decreased appetite, fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, increased sweating, or changes in sexual function. The dry mouth sensation can make you feel excessively thirsty. Just a quick assurance but do you by chance have diabetes? Increased dry mouth with new medications in diabetics can indicate higher blood sugars. If you have not been diagnosed with diabetes, please disregard that comment, it is only intended as an extra informative piece and it is not likely that you would develop it from taking this medication. Best of luck!"

goodguy9544 replied: "I have had much the same experience in making the very switch you have made; it does not seem uncommon, but of course everyone is going to have a different experience with side effects. Take it or leave it, but my advice would be to drink as much water as possible and ditch the coffees and sodas (especially caffeinated, since caffeine is a diuretic). The more "pure" hydration you can consume, the better off you'll be. I never did lose the increased need for hydration so I went with the flow and just began toting some good tasting water around with me. If your experience is similar to mine, you won't have quite the same thirst after a few months, but again, your experience may be different. Good luck!"

Jess replied: "My father recently began taking Cymbablta recently, and at first he experienced heavy thirst, but after a few weeks as his body adjusted to the new drug, he experienced it less often. Thirstiness is one of the common side-effects, so you're not alone. It should be just fine, but if it becomes a problem, contact your doctor. :D"

Are these side effects of lamictal or zoloft? I take 100mg of lamictal and 60 mg of zoloft daily. i know i shouldnt drink on them but i do but lately i have noticed the next day i am overly tired, i am constantly shaking and my body feels abnormal. Are these side effects of either medication? are they abnormal side effects?

M. HippocratEz replied: "While they are normal side effects of both of those drugs, the alcohol intensifies them. You have a decision to make: Do you want to keep drinking and let the side effects compound and get even worse, or do you want to stop drinking and live as normal as possible? Alcohol is not your friend at this time in your life. In fact, it's an enemy."

is anyone out there taking amitryptline at bedtimes and zoloft during the day? I have been getting panic attacks for the last 3 months i was sent to go see a pysciatrists she diagnosed me with adhd and obsessice compulsive disorder. I was told to take 50 my of zoloft in the day and 60 mg of amitryptline at night. After a week i am supposes to take 100mg of zoloft during the day and go down to 50 mg of amitryptline at night. and to keep going down everyweek on the amitryptline untill i am off of it.I also take alprazolam 3 times a day prescribed by the doctor. im very scared to be taking 2 antidepressants. just wanted to know if anybody out there is going through anything similar??

Eric K replied: "It is fairly common to be on multiple antidepressants for a short period of time. Usually in order to wean one off one drug and put on another. It also helps control the anxiety/depression more immediate, then when the plasma concentrations of the drugs are up to its pharmacologic activity range, you wean your self off the one drug. This happens quite often. Good luck."

Jupiter Ceasar Leprechaun II replied: "I am on 4 atm ( prozac, wellbutrin,Vyvanse, and mirtazpine ) Life is not perfect however wo the meds i dont sleep much and just basically sit/lay around the house and thing about all thats gone wrong. On the meds i sleep better am able to do things like look for work, enjoy games, do some chores etc. Maybe one day i will be off all or some of these but not today and thats ok. The endless stream of anger regret flashbacks worries is cut down. I wish it were gone for good but glad for the respite"

joeyc replied: "Hi!. Do not be afraid to take multiple prescriptions. Your Dr. is weening you off the Amitryptline, and increasing your Zoloft over a period of time which is common practice. Often times multiple drugs are used together because they do work very effectively with one another. The Alprazolam also works well with the Zoloft. If you ever have any questions do not hesitate to call your Dr. Your Dr. is there for you to help in any capacity you need, and do not feel you have to wait for an appointment to ask about something that might concern you. You should try not to worry, I know it can be unsettling, but trust me you will feel better every day. E me if you ever want to talk. Be Well."

is there any pills that treat Persuasive development distorter? i am 15/m and i take 36 mg of concerta and 60 mg of strattera and two 100 mg of zoloft and 50 mg of seroquel.

bubbleblunder replied: "There are no medications that treat PDD per se, but there are a variety of medications that are used to treat various symptoms in certain people. And recently the FDA approved Risperidal (sp?) for autism, so I would imagine that it would be considered for PDD as well."

marcosarroyos2003 replied: "I think you mean pervasive not persuasive. Hell, I have a persuasive problem, I can't get anyone to do what I want them to."

EmilyRose replied: "No, but various medications may be able to control related conditions or even certain symptoms of PDD itself. The medications you listed could be used to treat ADHD, depression, and anxiety. All of these are common among people with PDD, and they might help with other symptoms besides these disorders, but they don't treat the underlying cause. For that matter, they don't treat the underlying cause of anything, they just control the symptoms. With PDD, there are too many symptoms for them to be controlled with a single medication (that's why it's pervasive), but medication can help with various things. I'm by no means an expert on PDD, and that's probably not a very good explanation, but I hope it helps anyway."

I've been taking Cymbalta for depression for 2-3 weeks, started at 30 mg. for 1 wk, then up to 60 mgs. for 2 weeks now. I find it is helping me and working better than the Zoloft I was on before. Is anyone taking a higher dosage than 60 mgs? I would like to ask my dr. to increase mine and wonder what others are doing. I want to increase the dosage because I feel it is not helping as much as it first did, my body is getting used to it. I will not increase it without asking my doctor, of course. I just wondered what dosage others had increased to over time.

Natalya replied: "Don't increase the dose without asking your doctor. All anti depressants can take a month, or even more, to really start working properly, so if you've only been on yours for three weeks, it's still fairly early days. Good luck with it!"

lisa d replied: "im taking the same .it is helping me why would u want to go up on your mgs if it is helping you"

me replied: "I've read the perscribing details on the website and they say that the benefits have not been shown to increase in doses above 60mgs. I would give it more time, but if you really want to go up, speak with your doctor. He/she may perscribe something different or a combination of things. When I first started Cymbalta, I felt a good, almost "high" feeling. After the first few weeks it wore off and I started feeling "normal" again."

meggus31 replied: "The highest recommended dosage is 60mg but your dr. can have you go up to 90. I was on 90. It will be up to your dr. though, check with him."

I have a medication question? When I was a kid they had me on melaril for a week or so and it zombified me so I am told. Over the years Valium, Depakote, prozac/paxil/zoloft, Alprazolam, now stratera 60 mg uid and effexor 150 mg uid. I am losing the effects I once gained from the startera and effexor. I am planning, once insurance kicks in, to see a shrink. I want to request some psychopharmacological agent that will give me the "lights are on but nobody's home" effect. I want to fuction but just to the point i must other than that I (pardon me Ramones) wanna be sedated. I have Aspergers Syndrome/AADD/Tourettes/Generalized Anxiety Disorder/PTSD/and some softer symptoms of other problems or so I have seen in the psych reports on me i just received and read (I went and got records from every shrink who ever saw me and has records) What is in vogue that would knock me flat out but let me function in society and do my job but in a sedated way. I used to self medicate with pot and it works but is illegal.

M.J. Stoner replied: "Yes it is illegal but I say "Screw the govt" and the law/ Esp since they are never around when u need them, lol. They don't know what it's like. If it works for you: who am I to judge. I do the exact same thing for my anorexia & chronic nausea & I am sure we're not the only ones. Take it EZ! Check out this new documentary on Showtime if u can called "In Pot We Trust"."

zs_a_rose_by_any_other_name_zs replied: "soo... what's your question? i can't really help you out here..."

michele replied: "Seroquel or Abilify."

Bags replied: "It seems to me that you have tried everything except the one and only thing that WILL help your situation. You need to have a closer personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I would suggest looking for a non-Catholic church in your area and ask them for help. I have been counseling with my pastor for several weeks now regarding my depression and I feel great! I am starting to wean off one of my meds. Also, I understand my answer will get 1,800 thumbs down, but I'm not looking for popularity here. It's so funny that people will turn to God as a last resort, when He should be the first person you seek when things get tough."

fiVe replied: "Meds effect everyone differently, so what knocks out one person may just level out someone else. I don't know why you'd want something that makes you zoned out, but Zyprexa might do the trick. If your goal is to avoid feeling so you don't feel bad then you're selling yourself short because you can find the right combination of medications that will just level you out to "normal" whatever that is. When you see the doctor, explain to him your goals and intentions and he'll know better what meds should work."

marcp_68 replied: "There is a newer drug out on the market but its costly, unless you haveinsurance. The drug is Serequal and it will take care of many issues you are having and will sedate you for sure. Dosages should be high something like 200-300mg morning and 400-500 mg at night. This is the best BI pOLAR Plus drug on the market. Also, take Invega (paliperidone) or Risperdal along with it. You Zanex/ Valium will not needed cause the anxiety is taken away from the other drug combo. I am positive it will work. You need to start off with smaller dosages and work your way up with Serequal but I am sure the dosage amount is what you need it sounds like atleast."

La-Te-Da replied: "Clozaril or Abilify"

itsaMadMadworld replied: "I feel so bad for you. Incidentally I've been on psych meds for a few years now (for bipolar) and they seem to have produced that effect... which i didn't like but if you're going for it, try zyprexa (no more than 10 mg: it will make you somewhat drowsy, but anything higher will just put you to sleep for all day); i think benzodiazepines like ativan are sedating; also respirdal and/or lithium. i heard drugs for tourettes and some anti-psychotics (or mood stabilizers) are sometimes mutually exclusive, but check; dont' mix too many and find a good psychiatrist; if you have any other questions, you can email me"

Quitting Zoloft. How long until I lose the weight? Been on zoloft for 3 years... gained 60 lbs. My doc and I feel this is unacceptable (tried everything to lose.. low carb/low cal/weight training/heavy cardio) We're tapering 10 MG a month on the liquid (highest dose was 100 mg) How long will it take to see some of this weight come off?

PTSDer replied: "It is very person to person. Some lose it, but I never lost an ounce of it with lifestyle changes once off. Still pudgy here."

Im taking zoloft and trezadone...? I started the trezadone 50 mg yesterday but Ive been on the zoloft 50 mg for about 4 weeks. I slept for 15 hours... woke up at 3:30P today. I am 16, weigh 114, and stand at 4'11" I have felt very lightheaded, and tired. I get dizzy and sort of black out when I stand - but only for a couple seconds My mother had me take my blood pressure and it was 100/60 is this normal or should I check with my doctor?

essentiallysolo replied: "50mg is a pretty hefty dose for someone your size, I'd call the doctor."

Help overcoming SSRI (ZOLOFT) withdrawal (possibly mixed with Benzodiazepine withdrawal)? You don't have to read any further than the actual "question" I wrote--I'm desperate for your simplest response to that. I've been having most or all of the symptoms I've read about for SSRI withdrawal syndrome for almost a week. (Just know I probably won't go back to my psychiatrist, so the word of advice that probably won't do anything for me is "talk to your psychiatrist.") Part of the long story in case you care... Was taking Zoloft (200 MG) and Ativan (the Ativan I'd been having abuse issues with by the way so I was taking more than prescribed) then was suddenly switched to just Klonapin. Was on the Klonapin for maybe two weeks before mysteriously running out (I swore it didn't look like there were 60 pills in that bottle when I first opened it...) I stopped, and for reasons that would take too long too explain I stayed off of everything. Thanks in advance!

Been there! replied: "The answer is simple. You are definitely going through withdrawal. Why? Because you never, never, never stop taking SSRIs or other regulated medications like Ativan and Valium cold turkey. So, deal with the withdrawal symptoms (unless you are thinking of suicide) or do what you don't want to hear - see your doctor. I've done cold turkey on SSRIs and the withdrawal is pure hell and I'm a nurse! I feel for you. Good luck!"

Kevin replied: "Like the previous poster said you aren't supposed to quit SSRI's cold turkey. Your supposed to gradually decrease your dose until you don't take it anymore. Talk to your doctor about this, he is bound by a confidentiality agreement so anything you tell him he can't tell anyone else, including your parents. He should be able to get you off these medications safely. Not sure about the benzo withdrawal, but I'm sure that can't be much fun either. Please, please, talk to your doctor. Best of luck."

Stephen replied: "The standard way to withdraw from benzos is to convert whatever you are taking to an equivalent dose of diazepam (valium) and gradually reduce the dose. Ideally you shshouldn'tave the medications yourself because you will be tempted to take more. InInitiallyhe drop can be rereasonablyuick but as the total dose reduces the drop needs to be smaller. Don't try to stop both at the same time.ChChoosehatever you think is best for you complete withdrawal from that then move on to the otother one"

Kellie replied: "yOU CAN'T JUST STOP KLONAPIN. i'VE BEEN ON IT 15 YEARS AND NOW MY BODY IS RESISTANT TO IT. TOMORROW I AM GETTING ON SOMETHING NEW. BUT MY BODY SURE CAN TELL WHEN I NEED A KLONOPIN. YOU CAN GO INTO SEIZURES FROM ABRUPTLY STOPPING. CAN YOU HAVE A REFILL CALLED IN?"

Tigger replied: "I suspect you need urgently to go back onto zoloft, and stay on it until the withdrawals have gone and then taper off it very slowly. Its possible also that you need to go back onto ativan while doing this and then, when you are safely off the zoloft, start tapering off the ativan in a similar way. There is a link to an article by a Professor D. Healy called Halting SSRIs that you can print off and take to your doctor on how to taper off zoloft. Hopefully the doctor will take it on board and realise you urgently need assistance. If you download the pdf at the top of the article, it will print out more easily. As to the ativan, there is help from a Professor Ashton on benzodiazepine withdrawal here: Every day matters when withdrawal has started as things can escalate very quickly, so if your doctor won't prescribe the zoloft and ativan and you have to get zoloft and ativan from your psychiatrist, do it. As soon as possible."

Ahorn replied: "http://theroadback.org/ Welcome to The Road Back Program All information, including the book, How to Get Off Psychiatric Drugs Safely, is available for free on this site. All chapters are located on the left side of the page."

Counsellor Oneil replied: "Should not stop taking Zolofit and Ativan suddenly. Continue taking Zolofit for some more time and switch over from Ativan to Diazepam ( Valium ). and then slowly taper off valium. There are some other strategies also available but they should be used with help of your psychiatrist."
